Asking for suggestion/help cleaning/fixing etc goes in general-do it yourself-make your own-money talk unless you're ONLY asking if a product's safe

  • Im fairly new to the group and Im sure there has already been posts on this subject but I am wondering if someone knows of a website that lists basic toxins to look for in hygiene products, like shampoos, soaps, lotion, face care prodeucts ect, like I know some of what to look out for but Id feel more comfortable if I had a list of things to watch out for, so if anyone could post a website for me to look at id greatly appreciate it!

  • I know that there is a list in this group somewhere, just not sure where.  However, there is a site you can go to that rates hygiene products according to their ingredients.  www.cosmeticsdatabase.com  Good luck!

  • There is an organization for this and it is called  campaign for safe cosmetics.  Their URL is  safecosmetics.org.  If you click on what's in your products, it lists a lexion of terms that you see in cosmetic and personal care products and it tells you what they mean. They also have a listing of companies that support them in the indutry and that they recommend.  Hope this helps

  • I've always relied heavily on the Environmental Working Group.  They have a database that you can type in the name or company that produces the shampoo etc...  that you use.  Even cosmetics are included.  As a side note, I have a website too where you can purchase non-toxic and mostly organic cleaning products and they LAST (and I mean for years)- have you heard of Shaklee?  They are a carbon-neutral company that's been around for years.  I own a diaper service in my area (washing diapers and returning clean to moms) and I do this on the side as diaper service doesn't make much.

    Check out my website:  http://earth-changing.myshaklee.com/us/en/welcome.html

    Hope this helps!  :)

  • Has everyone joined the Million Baby Crawl?  7th Generation created the campaign to seek reform to the Toxic Substances Control Act.  The act was passed in '76 to let the EPA "control" the toxins that go into household products.  Nothing has changed in 33 years despite a ton of new toxins being introduced.  Currently there are approx. 80,000 toxins out there but only 200 have been researched by the EPA!!  EEEK!!

This campaign is right on the money and seeks to require manufactures to fully test their products and make the results public.  Currently they aren't even required to list all the ingredients in their products!

So, yeah, if you haven't joined the campaign yet, here's a link where you can get more info about it and create a little virtual baby that crawls to Washington to ask for reform.  http://budurl.com/mbcrawl

  • Hi Moms!

I am new to this group- just joined a few minutes ago. You can get all this info and more on my site www.NaturesWizard.com- its a website dedicated to educating moms on the health dangers of toxic chemicals in household, personal care and baby & children products. All articles and research are written by reliable 3rd parties.  I do NOT sell products so you'd have to go to your local natural store to find them... I simply have a passion!

For the exact posting for haircare products, go to http://www.natureswizard.com/index.php/39/2007/11/01/less-toxic-guide-for-cosmetic-and-hair-care-products/

I will soon have a feature where you guys can "Rate & Review" a wide assortment of natural/organic products. I am looking for suggestions on how to promote this... any ideas???

  • I am soo curious... a few years ago a Shaklee representative told me that their products contained some frangrances which are clearly non natural and thus, toxic. Is this still the case? I heard that they may have changed these formulas.

By the way, anyone know more on Melaleuca products? I find that they are clearly a company who believes in greenwashing!
