"Waitressing Moms" is a group for those of us in the food service industry to come together and discuss all of the good and to vent about all of the bad aspects of our careers. People in our line of business tend, I beleive, to bond more strongly than those in others-- it's as if we're old war buddies-- we fight on the same battlefeild and survive night by night. Everyone should wait tables at some point in their lives to better understand how HELLish our jobs can really be! I know that we get looked down upon quite often by society, especially the older we get for being "just a waitress". But now I know that this is the job that is best for my daughter. As she gets older we will have the day to spend together and once she's in school I will be able to volunteer in her class. Plus I contribute to the income and have some cash of my own. It's funny how there is this debate over which is better: 'Stay at Home moms' or 'Working moms' and we do BOTH! Despite the downfalls (hard work, rude patrons, lousy tips at times) there are several perks to serving (short hours, great money for time worked, physically challenging, flexible schedules and best of all time at home during the day with the little ones!) We are not "just waitresses"-- we are women who put our families first without neglecting our share of the finances. When you think about it-- we have the best of both worlds!
