Here in KS our midwife was $2000.
Thank goodness we could work out a payment plan with her.
In NJ it's $6500 that does include the tub and pp care as well.

My lay midwife charges $950. I drive to her place for prenatals(peeing in cup & mini doppler for hearing heartbeat). She comes to the birth with 1 or 2 extra assistants/ appretices & carries oxygen & a few other things if needed. She also does a home visit after the birth. She will transport to the hospital if you want her too, should it become necessary, & to me, that's a major plus. There's one other lay midwife in the area, but she will not transport. That one said if there was a problem, she'd just send me away in the ambulance. How can she not know that that is a major fear of mine? Is she not aware of how hostile birthing in a hospital can be? I don't want my stomach cut, my vagina cut, & if I had a boy, I don't want his penis cut. I don't want to be told what position to labor in, I don't want to be up high on a table, I don't want things strapped to me, I don't want something screwed into my baby's skull during delivery....You get the picture:)
I'm in western OH.
my midwife is $2000 but she bills insurance she doesn't like taking money from families. Many midwifes around here range from $2000 to $4000 the price difference is if their connected to a birth center or have overhead of assistants and office space. My midwife mother daughter team comes to me for all my prenatal visits and then at birth the two of them plus their aprentus comes to the birth.
wow I could not imagine paying what some of the other have. My midwife cost $1200. How ever I only plan on paying $1000-I don't think that she was here very much and have already paid her 600$ just for the prenatal visit-like they were that hard or involved anything. Anyways she is only at my birth for like 3 hours if that not all day so she will have to live with $400 (if I decide to not have an unassisted birth-I,m fine with it Dh is a little nervous about it) that is still over $100 per hour how many of us make that? I guess I just fel that this time around I have been getting the shaft-the pool is a dirty kiddie pool i was suppose to get a nice pool and just pay for the liner-don't know what happened with that. All my prenatal visits have been scheduled around her other clients and on her time-And she had to reschedule at least 3 so that meant less visits ect. I think she was adequately paid for services rendered. I don't get to charge for gas and travel time ect nor does my Dh and he is considered self-employed. I am sure if you need to you can go with a mw for you prenatal visits then hire your home birth midwife for the labor and delivery to save yourself some money-I wish I would have done that at least then I would have gotten my ultrasound results back personally and in a timely manner. I would suggest man be at week 36 to start your pre-natal visits with you home birth midwife if you decide to do it that way. This baby would have cost us nothing if I went to a regular midwife-$1200 or more is a lot of out of pocket money! my kids are getting a new brother or sister for x-mas and that is about it.
I live in the Chicago suburbs and the closest midwife to me who is not in the city is $4,000. She does run a deal where if you pay her by 32 weeks she knocks it down to $3500. Also, she does charge the insurance, once she gets paid by the ins she pays you back. In Illinois it's illegal to use a lay midwife, so of course, this one is a CNM. I do know there are some lay midwives in the area but decided to go the legal route just in case. The $3500 does not include the $75 for the rental of the tub but it does include monthly visits and she does come to your home closer to your due date. She also comes to your home twice after the birth. The other thing is you have to buy a birth kit, or gather the supplies. It's around $60.
I was assuming you meant homebirth midwife? My hospital mw (which actually is the same, she just started doing hb) I had my first 3 in a hospital, completely natural waterbirths and it cost about 10,000 or more, it is covered by insurance. Going the homebirth way it's covered but it's out-of-network so I have a larger percentage to pay.
If it's a CNM she could be considered out-of-network therefore insurance will pay some ;) (not sure if this is the case, I'm just getting a feeling that many people don't know they can still bill insurance IF you have an out-of-network option) My mw doesn't even say it's for a homebirth she just gives her name and title and they pay.

I live in Illinois but have BCBS of Michigan so everything is considered out of network and they are paying for.. and yes, they give name, title and so far they've paid for my first visit! :)

I've been pregnant in a few states. When at home in California (we lived in the San Francisco Bay Area) the midwife we chose was $4500 (she was the cheapest one we could find who would travel to the East Bay). We had to pay out of pocket because insurance could not be billed.
In Washington in the Seattle metro the midwife was $3,000 (not sure how much others in the area cost).
In Missouri in the St. Louis metro, the midwife was $2,300 and that seemed to be the going rate for that area.
And we had to travel to our appointments, except for the one in Cali and had to pay for all of our tests, blood work, ultrasounds, birthing kit, and any other extras.
