I Just Want To Breathe
I want to walk to an empty field.
Lie down and look at the space between me and God.
I want to reach my arms out
and feel him kiss me like I how I use to be able to
because I don't feel that these days.
Instead, I feel the emptiness of the cold air freeze my lungs.
Security holds me like an armless mother with a crying child.
I just want to be held.
I want to be picked up from this Earth that I lie gently inside of
and be cradled inside soft arms
and sway to a heartbeat that's not my own.
Because relying on myself to navigate through the pathways of this giant world
is just too scary to think about.
I will lie to sleep silent under this sky,
breathe slowly,
and hope that God hears each breath I give
but rely on my own sanity to hold me.
