Hello everyone- My name is Jen and I have a 16 yr. old non-verbal son with severe autism. I had an IEP meeting on Aug. 17 that stated my son needed to be in a harness on the bus. On Aug. 31, the bus aide put my son on the bus and as I was turning to walk away the bus driver informed me that they had ordered him a harness the day before and it would take 2 days to get in.....school started on the 22nd!! I was really shocked and upset by this and asked why they had waitied so long, I thought they already had been using one......she said they didnt know what size he needed. Hmmmm....no one could call and ask me or they couldn't size him before school started????  Well, I couldn't yank him off the bus because then that just dirupts his schedule and would cause him to self-harm. I went into the house and called his SSA and told her about it. An hour later I get a phone call stating that he had banged his head so hard on the window that he broke it and they were transporting him to the hospital. My son had to get 7 stitches!! Now the home district, mrdd and the school he attends are all pointing fingers at each other and no one is taking responsibility!! I am so mad! What if this happens to another child?!! I am just at my breaking point and not sure what to do.  Any advice????

I completely agree. Call an attorney and anyone involved with keeping the children of that school safe. Someone definetly dropped the ball on that one.

yes,sue that is stupid, they should have been on the ball, this is your son,he has a right to be safe, and they knew,if they cant figure out whose to blame split it between them both, that's should have never have happened, how is your son? i hope is ok,and didn't have allot of pain, schools need to be more accountable for our children, they have a responsibility for him,and they failed big time,as parents we would be accountable, children's services would have been all over that,so they should be accountable,i have to stay on top of my sons school, until i threatened to pull him out,and called the ,they started really listening, and working with me,i got my son a case manger to help me speak for him,but as the parent you have to use your voice the loudest, because your his mom,i know that nami also is a great resource and will go to the schools, and community and any where to help you speak for your son,to help him be the best, and safest him possible, and they are free, fight for your son,and all other children so this never happens again, shame on them, and shame on the finger pointing, this little boy should have been safe, and this should have never happened, they are lucky to have him at there school.....
