schizoaffective disorder.  can anyone tell me how to get an advocate for my son?  i live in NC  ...franklin county area.  luckily his therapist use to be an advocate and she attends the iep meeting when she can..i  just want to have someone else that knows more about what the school is required to do.  he has a modified assignment schedule..but still failing at all subject.....he has runaway 4-5 times from school.  ive been told to homeschool Coty..but then he wouldnt get the socialization that he needs.  any advice or just support will be greatly appreciated!! he also has other dx ..

Just went through this. Read Wrightslaw.com Look for advocate through a non- profit org. I found one through DELARC, I'm in PA. My son has PDD-NOS and I had to fight school district for another school. Even though DELARC deals with the retarded mostly, I was lucky enough to find an advocate for free, otherwise they can charge anything they want. One woman wanted $200. an hour! Good luck.
