Please share links to resources that help people learn about the various Government programs out there for families.  This can be also the State agencies like Regional Center, COSAC, IRCA.

Autism Center of Pittsburgh -

This includes a free diaper program and a medical assistance transportation program.

You can go to your social worker and get information from him/her. They will point you in the right direction on what you are able to get for your child as well as how to get there. Our social workers over the years have helped us with getting SSI for our sons, PCA's, CADI waivers, Family Support Grant, OT services, PT services and Speech Therapists.
When our oldest son was diagnosed with autism we had no idea what autism was and were told to get a county social worker who could help us out, and they have helped immensely over the years.
I know that this is not a link of any sort, but it may be easier for some since it would be right in their local area.
Hope this helped.

Do you know who I need to contact about SS? My son has ADHD and ASpergers(we are having him evaluated this spring) , It could be higher spectrum than AS . I would like to see about getting some help with medical costs and medicine($1800, last year). Please any advice appreciated.

If you mean SSI you can go to their website and read about the requirements to apply and then look up your local office and make an appt.

If you are seeking county help you go thru your county.  What state do you reside in?

We live in TN, but we are probably not going to qualify, due to  income. I checked the website the other day, doesn't look too promising. I will give it a try anyway.

We live in NYand spent $15,432.52 for 2007 in medications alone for our son and were deniied SSI due to income. I often wonder, is it worth it to work?

..it all depends..being on the "system" or "getting help" you are limited in your entire life. They don't help much at all (in my case at least) and if you work and make alittle bit more than they want you to they take away what they give in help.  So I say "does that really help" I haven't found the answer yet on this. But I definately (me) rather make the money then what I have now.  I just try to find the simple thing to do if possible coz its the best I  can do.

God SHINES on us all but hand picks the one's He wants to SPARKLE!!!
