This is the spot to post links to stories in newspapers, notifications of appearances on tv, links to magazine articles and discussions of these.  Please just post the link and not the actual cut and paste of the story.  That does violate copyright issues and takes up more space in the group.

I will start by giving my recommendations.  I have a google alert set to "autism", which gives me one email daily from google with links to all newsstories online for that day.  You can make a folder in your inbox for google autism alerts and have a handy place for all media articles to read and print out at your leisure.  It might be good for relatives and teachers, therapists to let them know of a particular article.

Sometimes when a magazine like Time or Newsweek does a cover story or inside article on autism it will be available online, but not always.  Post here when you find an article in any magazine on autism and then we can check and see if it is online, or at least this will allow others to get the magazine from the store before they disappear.

When my kids were first diagnosed (98/99) I went around our stores like Vons and Rite Aid and grabbed a  handful of Time and Newsweek when they did stories on autism, which is usually around April.  I gave them to clerks and cashiers and said read this on your break, it describes my kids.  This really helped.

I also suggest signing up for alerts for various shows, especially those that have done segments on autism.  Dr. Phil has a weekly newsletter, Oprah sends out what is on the next day.  CBS has a weekly and daily newsletter, nightline,  dateline, 20/20 and all the shows.  Also Dr Phil and Oprah have message boards at their sites and when people get wind of an autism show they start posting at these boards.

The cable shows also send out notices of what they are working on like Larry King, Greta and Geraldo on Fox, and shows on networks like Rachel Ray, Martha and Ellen.

On Sep 17th Jenny Mc Cathy's new book will be released.  It is called, Louder Than Words:  A Mother's Journey in healing autism.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0525950117/autismspectrd-20

Her media dates are as follows:

Tue, Sep 18 - Oprah (ABC)
Wed, Sep 19 - Larry King (CNN)
Fri, Sep 21 - 20/20 (ABC)
Mon, Sep 24 - Good Morning America, (ABC)
Tue, Sep 25 - The View (ABC)

Make sure you let teachers, relatives and therapists know.  Record the show for spouses.  Post your thoughts on the show(s) or book here.  Anyone plan on getting the book?  I think I will so I can review it on my site.  I wonder if she would send me a review copy?  Usually people contact me so not sure but maybe will look for her website/

The CBS News Inside Scoop email just mentioned the following:

Surfboards bring a new lease on life for kids with autism. A story you won't want to miss tonight on the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric.  (Sep 13)

Sandra Hughes takes us to a special surfing camp for children with autism. See how riding the waves is providing their confusing and chaotic world with a new sense of focus and calmness.

This is on Surfers Healing - http://www.cbsnews. com/stories/ 2007/09/13/ eveningnews/ main3258045. shtml

I know here in Los Angeles the CBS Evening News airs at 6:30 pm.

There is a change to the Jenny McCarthy tour.  She will be on Larry King Sep 26th, not the 19th.  She will also be in the 9/21/07 edition of People Magazine.

This was in the August issue of Mother Jones magazine.

School of Shock -

Eight states are sending autistic, mentally retarded, and emotionally troubled kids to a facility that punishes them with painful electric shocks. How many times do you have to zap a child before it's torture?
