My husband and I will be moving to Hickam AFB by mid Aug. 2011. Can anyone give me some insight of what it will be like? Child care, housing (we really want to live on-base), just the whole base in general. Add me as a friend of you would like =D I love making new friends, especially ones I will be living on base with soon, lol. I also have a FB page uder Heather Kessler Beasley if its easier to talk to me on there. Thanks, I look forward to your anwers <3
Hi! I would love to help you with any questions you have! They are building a lot of new houses on Hickam. Also just know that you are authorized to seek any military housing on island. With the new houses the ranking is probably Navy, Army then Air Force. Hickam has recently become joint base pearl harbor hickam. There is lots of daycare but you should totally go ahead and get on a daycare list and a housing list (you can be on multiple housing lists at once). Where will your husband be working? How many kids and at what ages?
Thanks so much!! So getting on the list now would be a good idea, even though its still a little while away? I was looking at the houses in Earhart village, (my husband is HEO (heavy equipment operator) and an E-3) have heard anything about that village. I really want to stay on the AFB, if possible. We are trying to have another baby (when he comes in for R&R) and are hoping for the best first time around so when we get there we are hoping to go ahead and get the 3rd bedroom home, what about that?
As for daycare (Nicholas will be 3 by the time we ge there, our only 1) I am planning on going to school full time so I can get it over with sooner (but I am scared to put him in daycare) can I bring someone in my home to do it instead and still try to qualify for in home care??
What about the doctors on-base? Hospitals? Can I see doctors on-base with tricare standard? How is the BX and commisary? Do they have a mini mall? What about moving my things over there? How early can I ship my stuff and vehical? Pets?
I think that is all for now, lol. Sorry to ask so many questions. This is my first PCS and I want to make sure I don't mess anything up. And any added tips you can give me are more than welcome!!
P.S. Are you going to be there by the time I get there, lol!?!?

I don't know about that at all but my dd is three and is at the CDC west and they are wonderful there

How early can I ship my stuff and vehical? Pets? I'm mil so IDK about insurance (sorry), they have a mini mall, TMO will move your stuff (videotape it all before hand cuz claims for damage is a bitch), typically ship at least one car 1mth in advance and goods like 2 weeks in advance (understanding that it still won't be here when u get here), pets you need to go here for info on shipping pets (start it now!)

P.S. Are you going to be there by the time I get there, lol!?!? I will still be here, hopefully not deployed again by then

I have been looking at pictures of the different housing on base and I am getting more and more excited about living on Hickam AFB, but I do have one question. Which housing would you suggest to live in? I am really looking at the C3B-H Hale Na Koa Village or the C3B Hale Na Koa Village. Should I pick out or better question do they even give me a choice?
Thanks for the help....I really need it!!
