My husband and I will be moving to Hickam AFB by mid Aug. 2011. Can anyone give me some insight of what it will be like? Child care, housing (we really want to live on-base), just the whole base in general. I love living on Hickam AFB. The housing we live in is brand new housing. We have 1700 sq ft plus a garage. I love it!! We used to live in Aiea which is about 15 min drive to base (with traffic one hour) . The electricity bills were outragious!! It did not pay to live off base especially since BAH is decreasing. We use the daycare on base it is okay, a lot cheaper than off base. Actually the daycare is just a walk away from the new base housing. The base is huge compared to our old base, NEX is the place to shop for stuff, but the BX on Hickam works for short shopping trips. Also there is a huge Target close to NEX which is like 5-10 min drive from Hickam. I love it!!
