Squash killing each other?! Too late to plant new ones?

Hi ladies,

I'm new to the group and would like some advice.  My squash plants were placed too close together and they are strangling each other.  It's time to pull them out and give the other veggies some room to grow.  My question is, is it too late to plant one or two more where the others are now?

Where we once had 4-6 plants in two rows, I would like to plant 2 instead.  We live in coastal Virginia and get 8-10+ hours of sun each day.  What do you think?

Thanks!

Can you just thin?

i was going to suggest thinning as well. If you have four or six, remove every other one. Then you still have the other two or three to continue where they are at. If you feel like there's no hope anyway then you might as well give replants a shot, it won't hurt anything!
