so they fire Shannahan for not being more of a defensive coach, ok i understand that we really need some defense in there but what the heck are they doing now hiring a coach that is just like Shannahan, this new guy, Josh McDaniels, he is an offensive coach not a defensive one. Dont we need the Defense in our game? am i missing something here? not to mention he is only 32 yrs old. damn i feel old.

LOL~I feel waaay old too!

I just saw the news....forgot I couldn't sleep in today....ugh!! I'm not sure about the reasoning with this decision for a coach myself.  You woulda thunk a "defense" type anything would have been searched out??  hehe   I don't honestly know a whole lot about the guy.   I guess all we can do at this point is HOPE this young talent BRINGS IT next season!

~~GO BRONCOS~~

McDaniels assisted the defensive coaching staff for three seasons with the Patriots. And he hired Mike Nolan as the new defensive coordinator for the team.

As much as I loved Shanahan I'm excited about the new coach.  True he's young, but he brings with him experience in both offense and defense.  He's been around football his entire life with his dad and grandfather being high school coaches...true not on the NFL level but back to basics at heart.

To quote and article in the Denver Post:

"But what wins you over is his knowledge, his expertise, his thoroughness, his preparation. These are all preached and practiced by the Patriots organization as a whole. But beyond all that, his ability to relate to players is exceptional."

 Josh McDaniels file

Age: 32.

College: John Carroll.

Playing experience: College wide receiver.

Coaching experience

1999-2000: Graduate assistant, Michigan State.

2001: Personnel assistant, New England Patriots.

2002-03: Defensive assistant, New England.

2004-present: Quarterbacks coach, New England.

2006-present: Offensive coordinator, New England.

By the numbers

32 Josh McDaniels' age. He will become the third-youngest coach in NFL history.

8 McDaniels' NFL experience in years, none as a head coach, all with the New England Patriots.

1The Patriots' NFL ranking in 2007 in points scored (589) and yards gained (411.3) under McDaniels.

12Coaches in Broncos history, with the addition of McDaniels, who is only the second since 1995.

I say lets welcome McDaniels and look forward to a winning season with a fresh outlook.

We read alittle bit more about him this am and I would have to say the only thing I am really not thrilled with is his plans to wear a sweater (hoodie) like Bilacheck's which I think makes him look like an unkept slob.
