As some of you may know, Stella was born extremely premature, 15 weeks. Well, her development is delayed. She is more like a 6 month old (which is how old she should be) than a 9 month old (which is what she is). Anyway, my mother doesn't want to have a party on her actual birthday, she wants to have one around her due date, when her adjusted age will be 12 months. She said by then she'll be able to enjoy cake and maybe play a little. . . She has a point (kinda) but December is 3 months away! I was so ready to celebrate! of course she said the choice is mine, but i'm torn. If I listen to her Stella could possibly enjoy herself. But I also wanna acknowledge her REAL birthday. What would you do?

Whatever day she entered the world is her birth date. I would celebrate then, regardless of other opinions.

I would do it on her bday. We always have two we have his actual birthday party on his birthday date usually the big one. We then have a small celebration on the day he got out of the nicu that's usually just daddy gramparents little brother and me.

No way, celebrate her birth! She's obviously miracle :) she may not enjoy a party the way an older kid would but no one year olds really know what's going on on their first birthdays. It's your descision though!

I totally agree with you, and she will have a smash cake. it won't have filling so she should be able to enjoy!
