My 3 year old daughter has speech delay
Hello I have a daughter with speech delay she was evaluated at the age of 14 months because she wasnt saying any words at all nor mommy or daddy. So her pediatrician referred me to a neurologist and she recommended EI. She began receiving early intervention at 15 months she was receiving speecha and developmental therapy. She didnt show any progress until the age of 2 which is when she began to express some words and say mommy and daddy but was still delayed so we had her evaluated by a neurologial psychologist and she evaluated her and diagnosed her with PDD because she had limited eye contact and speech delay and little social skills. EI increased her speech therapy for 2 hours a week and we at home did our part with reading, flash cards, games and outdoor activities. I have learned that you can have all the therapist in the world working with your child but if you dont put your part your child cant succeed. She immediately began to show progress her speech has improved but she is still speaking jibberish at times but she has a great vocabulary of single words but no sentences yet but her phrases are starting to progress. She is now in the preschool diasbled program full day. She is currently receiving 2 hours a week of speech and 1 hour a week of OT but I dont feel that the speech is as intensive as it needs to be so I am having her evaluated by outside speech therapist to get her extra speech services.
