Thinking of starting a small side business

I have been doing some thinking about starting a side business doing photography.  Photograph parties, animals (ranches and farms too) and just whatever else people want.  I need some advise on pricing.  Im going to be putting it all on disc for the customer.  I have a certain radius that I won't charge for mileage, but anything over that, I don't know where to start for pricing for mileage or for the sessions for that fact.  I don't want to undercut myself but I don't want to charge that much either.  I need some help.  I have been reading alot of articles and I am even more confused lol.  Any help would be appreciated.

I have just started my business and I have already noticed three mistakes I have made.
I am priced too low. In September I am increasing my rates.
I offered the disc, plus too many images. My images look so poor when printed at Walmart. My lab is much better quality and I only want things printed there. I am also going to do an online gallery.
If I could I would only have my images viewed on a calibrated screen. (I don't have a studio so I can't really correct this.)
Find out what all photographers in your area are charging. Don't be as low as the lowest. Be in the middle.
As for mileage, I'm not sure what your rate would be. I charge .37 per kilometre.

I use Simply Color lab. I'm from Canada. I did test prints from Walmart, London Drugs, Blacks and Simply Color Lab.
London Drugs was very comparable to Simply Color lab.
I highly recommend when selecting a printer do a print test. Just select how every many printers, send them the same image (I had four images that showcased different colors, textures, seasons). It's amazing the differences!
