Home Remedies and Herbal Moms
My sister called this morning in tears. She is appx. 15 wks. pregnant. Apparently she has gotten an infection and feels like she needs to pee but can't. It's so bad she even has some blood tinged pee. I told her the only thing I know and have used... cranberry juice. Does anyone here have more suggestions for her? Or how much she should drink and how frequently? I told her to start with 3 large glasses, but not sure if that was good info or not. Guess I get more worried when it's someone other than me.... TIA!

Alka Seltzer helps with UTI's. Just drink some. Also, some apple cider vinegar should help as well.

When pregnant the best thing (even better than antibiotics/and safer) is a tea called Uva Ursi, I had a bladder infection in my first and latest pregnancy. And I have done lots of research on the safety of this herb, and have used it myself
make it strong (it is bitter) ..I add some stevia to mine. Drink it often as one can throughout the day. Along with water, and usually cured by next day, but this last time, I had to do it two or three days before I was completely cured, in fact, I think only drank the tea for two days, but there was little delay, I was cured the third day.
When not pregnant, uva ursi works but the strongest and quickest when not pregnant is golden seal (or a detox tea with golden seal) but I found golden seal so strong that I needed to also take acidophilus.
Cranberry and stuff like that don't do anything for me, and I have never had a homeopathy remedy for bladder work either.
I used to get bladder infections regularly in my early twenties, something in dairy causes my urethrea to spasm. Stress exasperates things. I thought it was stress but when I quite the dairy I still had stress but no bladder problems.
but when pregnant, our urethras are effected and this can make one have bladder problems, I have even drank uva ursi, in a more mild form regularly and that is probably why I didn't get bladder problems when I was pregnant the second and third time. I just now drink tea on an as needed basis.
Uva ursi is also a good source of vitamins and minerals, namely iron.
