Molly has her usual Fall into winter low bronchitis cough, but she added the twist if nausea and diarrhea to the mix this week, so I started her on flu and cold herbs.
- Chinese Star Anise- 15 drops twice daily. This is specifically for flu. The Chinese Star Anise pods were the original source for Tamiflu which is now made from modified e-coli. The tincture is taken at the first sign of flu and continues twice daily x 5 days.
- Cinnamon Honey- 1 Tbs honey with 1t cinnamon. Lick off a little at a time as needed for sore throat. I add a single drop of cayenne tincture to it.
- Mullein Syrup- an expectorant
- Ginger Tea for nausea and to bring down fevers.
- Blackberry leaf tincture as needed for diarrhea.
If she had pneumonia, I would add a tea of Peppermint,Oregano, Thyme and Basil.
For Bronchitis I use a team made of 2 parts Peppermint to 1 part each:
- Thyme
- Basil
- Mullein
- Coltsfoot
- Narrowleaf Plantago
- Licorice Root
For a sleep aid, make a tea of chamomile, Passion Flower and California Poppy. Very soothing, pleasant tasting and sleep inducing.
Hope your daughter feels better soon. I need to give the sleep aid suggestion a try. I struggle sometimes with not being able to sleep.
Where do I get the herbs..... Start in your kitchen cabinet! They are cheap and effective. Oregano is as effective as penicillin. Thyme is an expectorant. Basil is anti-gas. Cinnamon stabilizes blood sugar and helps heal sore throats. Cayenne powder (dried ground red peppers) will stop bleeding as will ground cloves which are also numbing to the pain from a cut. Ginger is good for nausea and pains and is anti-inflammatory.
Some of my herbs I grow, some I buy online from San Francisco Herbs or iherb, some I wildcraft (harvest in the wild- only if you are absolutely positive what you are picking!) and some I buy at a local health food store in small amounts.
For a starter book, I recomend "Complete Medicinal Herbal a complete guide to the healing properties of herbs" by Penelope Ody.
