I'm not very good at writing any kind of story, so my doula has offered to write my birth story. When she finishes it, I will write it here to give more details. But to some it up...after 46 hours of labor, Evan James finally decided to join the world! He weighed 9 lbs, 12.4 oz and was 20 1/4" long. Waterbirthed at a birth center (posted here because, technically, it's connected to a hospital). Now he and his 3 yr old sister share a birthday! How cool is that?!
Here are some pics:
laboring in the water (wasn't in there very long before he was born)

Crowning...that's about when I realized just how real the "ring of fire" is.

Evan has arrived! A little meconium in the water but nothing to worry about.

Right after he was born.

I couldn't believe I did it! We were both so happy and on a natural high. It was amazing!

Close-up picture of my precious little Evan.
Overall, Evan is healthy. He was diagnosed with VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect) at 2 days old. Basically, it's a small hole in his heart. The cardiologist at Children's Hospital said it will most likely heal on it's own within the first year and everything should be fine. I pray every night that's all it is. I trust the doctors wholeheartedly but I still worry.
Congrats! Great pictures. That bathtub looks so spacious! I wish ours was big like that. Just curious...how long was your active labor?
That is really neat that they were born on the same day. It will make birthday celebrations super easy.
CONGRATS!!!!

Well, it took about 43 or 44 hours to dilate from 3cm to 7cm, but I had off and on contractions. Some very intense, some not. Then it took about 2 or 3 hours to dilate from 7cm to 10cm. Those contractions were right on top of each other (couldn't really time them) and extremely intense.

Congratulations!!!
And you are the umpteenth person that I've heard of who has labored longer than I did and didn't have a c-section pushed on them. I'm going to start collecting all of your stories and give them to my doctor, I swear to God.
You are awesome--great work, mama!

congrats and i can't wait to read the story ur doula does for u.. also i wanted to give u some positive notes about the hole in the heart deal. My oldest who is goin to be 11 yrs old in 9 days ~~cries i am getting old~~ she has a hole in her heart. They did not find it until she was almost 3 years old. We seen a specialist and that is who found it. They say all babies while in the womb have these holes. Some close up before birth some don't. They say usually by the age of 6 yrs old the hole will close with most likely it being in the first year. At the age of 6 my dd had surgery done on her heart. They can do soo much now days. It was an outpatient surgery at a childern's hospital. What they did was went thru her leg with a cath. and they put this device in there to fill the hole. It kinda reminded me of a copper scratch pad when they showed us a sample. All thru her life she has been a very active little girl... before and after the surgery. She plays soccer ... she loves to jump rope. It has put no limits on her at all. We think of a hole being very scary....... specially because of the heart. but now days they can do soo much and detect things earlier. My thoughts and prayers r with u and ur little one. and congrats again !!
Congrats mama! you have some awesome pictures!!! I will keep your family and your son in my prayers and i know that his heart has already been healed! have a nice baby moon!

LOL. You should! But the doctor would probably come up with some bogus excuse as to why it was ok for me (and others) but not you. :)
The only thing they pushed on me was to go home. I wasn't having that. I lived an hour away and going home when I knew I was progressing wasn't an option in my head. I was not risking having my baby on the side of the road, completely unprepared for any kind of UC. Nope...just wasn't gonna happen. Haha..

I'm so glad to hear your DD's doing so good. It's reassuring to hear such wonderful success stories. I'm especially glad it doesn't limit her at all. That is one thing I'm worried about- him not being able to play soccer or football or even run with all the other kids. It's great to hear that all of that is still possible, even after a heart surgery. :)
