BIRTH IS NORMAL
This community is meant to be a safe haven for discussion about birth. Topics discussed in this group are about pregnancy, midwives, childbirth, breastfeeding, post-natal and newborn care.
This group defines natural birth as “birth without artificial, medicalized interventions”. Because a woman merely had a vaginal birth does NOT mean she had a natural birth.
Birth is not crisis management; it is not a rescue mission to relieve the mother of the child and the child of the mother. It is not an emergency. Birth is safe. Interference is risky. We don't condone and we can't allow misinformation to be spread. We are only interested in fact and truth. The truth is never an easy thing to hear, but the truth shall set you free.
We believe that normal birth is:
A pregnancy that ends after being allowed to run it's natural course
Free from artificiality
Free from unnecessary intervention
We believe that normal birth is not:
When interventions are allowed for convenience sake.
Stripping/sweeping membranes before 42 weeks
Inductions for non-medical reasons (and no, size of the baby and going past 40 weeks are NOT medical reasons)
Allowing water to be artificially broken during labor to speed things up.
Shot of pitocin after birth to speed delivery of placenta.
This group supports and encourages out-of-hospital birth. If you join and are planning a hospital birth please know we are going to try encourage you to have an out-of-hospital birth via birth center, home birth with a midwife or unassisted.

First and foremost we are here to support, encourage and educate one another - ALWAYS.
All posts on the subject of pregnancy, natural birth, natural family living are appropriate subject matter for the community. However, please do not advertise within this community.
Just as no two women are exactly alike, no two births are exactly alike. Every woman has a unique medical history, unique preferences, and a rhythm all of her own. Even within a single woman's life, she may have vastly different birth experiences.
Discussion is allowed as long as it is respectful- no hate speech or personal insults. Members who go to other members' personal journals for the sole purpose of harassing them is also not tolerated. Healthy, even heated, debate is welcome. It takes a lot of personal accountability to be able to debate respectfully. If you are not capable of respectful disagreement, do not engage in discussion on sensitive threads.
Cite your sources. If you read something somewhere and state it as fact, please cite your sources and provide links.
Please keep profanity to a minimum. Some swearing is tolerable & to be expected, but please keep it down to a reasonable rate.
GROUP IDEALOGY
Birth is not crisis management; it is not a rescue mission to relieve the mother of the child and the child of the mother. It is not an emergency.
Birth is safe. Interference is risky.
Breastfeeding is normal. Babies were born to be breastfed. Breast-milk is a babies' birth right. This community is EXTREMELY pro-breastfeeding.
Birth should not be a time in a woman's life when she has to FIGHT for anything. Birth should not be a battlefield.
We also acknowledge that birth is not always without risk, but we believe that life is not without risk. There are a lot of things more risky than birth.
Birth is not the act of rescuing a baby or a mother from death, yet that is the prevalent attitude about birth.
Parents are qualified to become informed about their choices and can make the decision to make all the decisions.
We encourage women to stop giving their authority away and recognize that they are their own authority.
