I am trying to make my own diapers for my little one and I read that if you use flannel on the outside and fleece on the inside that works best. BUt I don't really want to use those fabric becuase its very hot here and I don't my baby to sweat his buns off. I was woundering if using eco- friendly fabrics like 100% cotton or Hemp or bamboo would wourk just as good. If anyone could help me I would appreciate it PLEASE!!!
I have not done much experimenting with fabrics but I know the place I get my stuff to make them sells bamboo, hemp, and cotton so they can be used I don't know how they compare. My AIO diapers are birdseye flannel and it's not heavy it's like kitchen towel weight and has a total of six absorbant layers. I don't think that any other fabrics would be much lighter especialy once you get all the layers for absorbacy. What you want to look for is breathability which any natrual fabric is going to give you.
yeah, what she said :) I use all flannel in my fitteds. fleece is also breathable. make 1 diaper each way and see what you think!

My first supply of cloth diapers cost me $150. What I did was bought three dozzen gerber prefolds, I know that most people will say they are not that good but I did not have any issues and I wanted to make sure that I was going to do this before I took a plunge and some vinle pants from Big Lots because that's where I could find them. Then when I was sure I was going to cloth I got some wraps from, I can't find it right now but I bought one donzen each small, med, and large and three ext large just so I could get free shipping I spent $100 on that. I used that system for about a year. At this point the wraps that we have do not fit my DD and they are a little wore out. I had been wanting to try AIO's so I made an order for some kits at diaperkits.com I got 13 kits for AIO diapers for around $80 this includes elastic all the soaking layers the water proof layer velcro and size tags as well as instructions and scraps. The cost is around $7 a diaper and everything is cut for you and ready to go, completely worth it in time and headach saved. When I was pricing the materials to make them myself it was going to cost me at least that much and I would have to add on the time to pre-wash, iron the fabric, cut it and re cut if I made a mistake. As for how long it takes to make one. It took me about an hour per diaper to make mine. It was an all weekend process and would have gone smoother if I had thought ahead and had DH take DD out of the house for one day so I could just work. I'm getting ready to order another set as right now we are washing diapers every day and that is just too much. Idealy I would have 3-4 dozen so that I could wash on sunny days and have enough to last if it is a rainy week so I can either wait for a sunny day or only have to do a dryer load once a week or so because my dryer takes forever to dry them. I think it's completely worth it in cost saved especialy if you plan to have another child, and these diapers can be resold for at least what you paid for them when you are done if you take good care of them.
And another thing, this is my reply when most people talk about the "hassle" of cloth diapering. Especialy with the AIO it's not much different than sposies just you have to plop the poop into a toilet. You take the diaper off and deposit it into a pail, the only difference is instead of taking it out to the garbage when it's full or too stinky you take it to the washing machine every few days. Really not that bad. My DH was a little put off too by the extra work, and he really did not want to do it the old fashioned way with pins like we started to do. Now that we have AIO his words were "we just need 50 more of those and we will be good to go" We used to only cloth at home and use sposies when we were out but with the AIO it's so easy we are using cloth full time now.
