At one time my daughter and I thought we might go into the diaper cake business but we never did. They are however very fun to make and we try as much as possible to make one whenever one of our friends or relatives are having a baby shower. We just ask them what the theme of the baby shower is and match/coordinate the diaper cake accordingly.
We never really logged how many pampers we used. We just kept rolling and adding to each layer until we thought it was the right size. We used the small clear rubber bands for each pamper we rolled and one big rubber band to hold all of them together. We used baby bottles in the middle to start the layer.
After we finished each layer we took 3 rods and placed them strategically through all three layers to keep them in place. Then we started decorating, which is the funnest part!
We used tape to keep everything together and a lot of the items like the baby books we tucked into the pampers. After the diaper cake was all decorated we placed on an aluminum round serving tray that was covered with lace cloth. The baby bootie party favors were than placed around the bottom of the diaper cake.
Here's some photos of a diaper cake my daughter made for a friend. It's unfortunate that we didn't take more photos of all the diaper cakes we made but at least we have this one.
This is the bottom of the diaper cake. She wrapped macadamia nut hershey's kisses in tulle, tied it off with blue curling ribbon and tucked them in baby booties. This surrounded the bottom of the diaper cake for guests to take home as party favors.
The theme was Winnie The Pooh and so here you see a hooded towel covering the top layer of the diaper cake. Nestled in the diaper cake are baby lotion, pacifiers, Winnie The Pooh books, and baby powder.
The bottom layer of the diaper cake is wrapped with a Winnie The Pooh growth chart, again with books nestled inside. Also attached is a Tigger stuffed doll and on the left are baby booties.
This is the back of the diaper cake. Here you'll see a Winnie The Pooh bath mitten, baby manicure set, and travel wipes.
Here you're seeing the middle layer of the diaper cake which is covered with a blue Winnie The Pooh blanket. See all the books nestled in there? Education is a big thing with us. On the top is a bottle of baby oil but what you don't see is there are 3 baby bottles in the middle of each layer.
Another view showing the baby booties.
This is the whole diaper cake, front view. She did such a fantastic job!
At her baby shower there were loads of different pamper cakes! Crafters are taking pamper cakes to whole new levels. There is a motorcycle one, a monster truck one sooooo many and sooooo cute!
