Does anyone here surf Craig's list very often? I'm remodeling my house so I've been watching Craig's list a lot lately.
I can't help but check out the pets also..even though I'm not hunting for new one at the moment.
I'm amazed at the number of Doxies I find there...some pups some older dogs.. Most of the people either say, they are moving and can't take them with them, or they just had a baby and don't have time for the dog.. Isn't that like giving a family member away? I don't know...maybe everyone isn't attached to their dogs like I am. To me mine are as much part of the family as my son, or my husband...I'm sure they think the same.
~Just wondering....I'd love to rescue them all, but I know this isn't possible.
I have tried to sell things on Craig's List before to no avail. I have never looked at pets...I think it would break my heart.
But as far as giving away your pets, yes, it is like giving away a family member, but sometimes you have no choice.
I had to find homes for my pets when I found out I was pregnant. The pregnancy was a surprise (at 37!) and I wasn't married. I rented my house, my now-husband owned his. I moved in with him and we got married. There are rules where we live and you can only have 1 pet, and it has to be small. I tried to bring my dog, but I was told she was too big - so my best friend took her. I gave 2 of my cats to old friends, and brought 2 of them with me (no one is going to notice an extra cat! LOL!). Then I eventually had to find homes for those 2, also, because I just couldn't take care of them and my son, and they weren't getting the attention they needed and deserved. They were starting to bite and scratch the baby, and that isn't fair to anyone. So they went to the old friend who had taken one cat already. Sometimes things happen and you truly can't take care of your pets, so it is better to find new homes for them then to neglect them, you know?
Now we have two parakeets and Oscar, and we can take care of them properly, and if something did happen, we know that we have family members who would take care of them.

I WISH it were like that here. I live in Pittsburgh, PA and once or two pop up every couple months and even if I reply within an hour, ITS GONE! Ever since we said goodbye to our Sheldon around Christmas time 2009 we've been looking for one. They go by so quickly when you can rarely find one on there.
