Hey I am new to the group and wanted to start this and hopefully get some responses.

My personal challenge is to get back to my prepregnancy size after two pregnancies by winter. That means I need to lose 50 lbs and will still be in the upper scale of normal weight.  That is 10lbs a month for 5 month or at the least 7lbs.

I work out atleast 30min everyday or atleast 5 of the 7 , thou I need atleast 60 but preferably 90 I rarely et that. I try to eat right and make healthy choices but I am an emotional sweets eater and can sabatoge my own efforts. I also feel really held down by my soon to be 3 month old and breastfeeding not to mention trying to keep the house in order with a 2 year old terror. I gained alot of weight with my first son 85lbs and then after I started shedding the pounds I ended up pregnant and worked out all the way through the pregnancy, but I was then bed ridden for nearly 6 weeks after his birth due to complications.Getting started again was hard and now that I'm back and determined i was hopeing for other ladies who were also working hard on their health and body.

  • Hi.  My name is Paula, and my personal challenge is to get back into a blue velvet mermaid dress I wore the month before I conceived my daughter--eight years ago.  I have gone on many diets and can never seem to lose the last ten pounds I need to lose to accomplish this.  Now, I was in really, really good shape when I wore this dress and had been working out two hours a day and had a personal trainer.  Those days are gone and now it is up to me--no gym and no trainer.  Fortunately, we live on an acre and a half and I have made my own track--my kids call it the "Mommy Track".  Five laps equals one mile.  I have been walking between 2 and 4 miles per day.  This works out great because I can still see my kids playing in the yard and it doesn't cost a thing!  I also have an elliptical trainer which I can use for rainy days.

Currently, I can get the dress on and zip it, but it looks pretty lumpy.  My husband has a photo of me in his office wearing this dress.  This morning I asked him to scan it  and email it to me to use as my motivational photo.  Once I get it from him, I'll post a photo and can start documenting my progress.

Let's keep in touch on our progress.  I noted you said you had a problem with sweets.  I have found granola to be a great solution to the sweets problem.  Post makes some really great granola (much more affordable than some of them--found in the cereal aisle).  I dump it in a container and add raisins or other dried fruit such as cranberries and when I get a craving for sweets, I eat about a half cup.  It has sugar and is not perfect, but it has nutritional value and lots of fiber, which you won't find in Oreos or chocolate cake.  I find it makes me feel like I've just eaten oatmeal cookies.  I discovered this in January, and find myself looking forward to my cup of granola after the kids go to bed and don't even think about anything else in the cupboard anymore.

    Have a great workout today!

  •  I've already lost 4lbs this week, hope I won't rebound. I had set a mini 2 week goal of 6 lbs soI am hoping to reach it sooner and maybe lose 15lbs by the month mark on July 21st.

Have you tried adding light weights to your walk or doing strength training or yoga to help tone muscles and create lean muscle mass??

  • Congratulations on the weight loss so far!  Yes, I have some three pound weights that I have taken on my walks, but admittedly not as much as I should, particularly if I am doing a long walk.  I should make a better effort to take them when I am just doing one or two miles though.  I do notice a difference in my shoulders.  I also have some eight pound weights and have done some arms (since Michelle Obama has made toned arms so popular lately), and admittedly have not done that as much as I should either.

On a positive, I worked out on the elliptical for 45 minutes this morning even with a menstrual headache.  Am hoping to get at least one, possibly two miles in on the Mommy Track later today.

  • I finally located my ankle weights.  I've been looking for them for two weeks and found them by accident this morning in my husband's closet.  Strapped them on and walked three miles today.  My legs are sooo sore!  Feels good though. . .

  • It's been a couple of days since I've posted, but the last few days have been crazy busy.  The good news is that I have managed to sneak workouts in every day except Friday.  I am definitely noticing a difference in my body, although I do have some moments when I am impatient and get discouraged.

My husband told me the biggest change he has noticed is my posture, which is a nice compliment because I have always had pretty good posture and prided myself on not slouching when I walk, etc.  I had it drilled into my head when I had a personal trainer that "a strong stomach means a strong back".

Also, I found myself in Dick's Sporting Goods yesterday and checked out a (I'm not sure what you call it--I've heard it referred to as a Roman Chair or a dip stand) machine to do abdominals.  I have wanted one for quite a while now and it was on sale and my mother talked me into (okay she didn't have to try too hard) getting it, so I loaded it into my car and my husband is assembling it right now.  I can't wait.  I have used this in the gym and swear by it for abs because it strengthens the lower abs in a way that I have not been able to achieve with traditional crunches.

I've been working out for two weeks as of yesterday.  No weight loss yet though . . .

I am more than happy to help if you need, (out of the kindness of my whatever, and nothing else!)

I know how hard it is to do it, but start right away with just doing 10 puch ups at your sink every time you pee or put a sippy cup or dirty plate in there.

  • I have started jogging and am off to buy new shoes because my feet have gotten bigger. They were already 9.5, probably a 10 now.

Posture is really important, I've been having lower back pain and am hoping the new shoes help but carrying around a 20lbs 3 month old is hard.

Here is a pic of me now and hope to be posting improved ones next month.

  • Hey, I didn't look like that three months after having a baby, I can tell you.  I think I was at my lowest point--is your baby sleeping through the night?  My first started sleeping through after six weeks.  I thought I must be an amazing mom.   However, my second didn't sleep through until around nine months.  I was completely exhausted and have a picture of me during that time.  I was a wreck!  Nevermind thinking about going out for a jog.  Good for you.

I had my daughter take a photo of me the other day, but I need my husband to download it for me.  I'll try to post it in the next day or so.  Still walking a lot.  We all went to the beach today and I think I walked around 2.5 miles.  Then came home and did another mile after dinner.  No food issues.  Almost had an ice cream cone on July 4th, but my husband talked me out of it.  Had my granola instead and was glad.  No guilt!
