That is horrible! My heart goes out to the player and his family. I just got done yelling at Matt this past Saturday for drinking out of the team water bottles on the bench. He has his own to use! I told him he could get the swine flu. I am emailing him this story now.

That is so sad and scary. One of Dylans teammates had the H1N1 and was out all last week this weekend he went to the game on Sunday but not allowed to play til Monday. Today Dylan woke up feeling like he was going to vomit and he has been stuffy and had a cough for about 3 days but no fever. Says he feels a bit better tonight but kept him home from school and practice today. However when I called the pediatrician they said even though he was in known contact with a child who had this flu they don't want to see him unless he has a fever! So frustrating like there is nothing parents can do other than vaccinate which is is low supply! OMG I just realized that also this weekend I saw players on both teams handing mouthguards to teammates out of their own mouths! Nasty anytime but really not good right now.

That is sad. I told Adam that he needs to drink from his water bottles only. He told me he doesn't put his mouth on the bottle, damn boys why do they have to be so stubborn? He doesn't want to listen to anything I have to say so oh well I guess.

That's what Matt says, they just squirt the bottle into their motuhs. I told him don't even do that, and he rolled his eyes at me. I know hockey players do tend to be gross, but this is not the time to be like that.

Ugh hockey boys are stubborn that's what I think anyways. Adam said he does use his own bottles but I've seen him use the team bottles too. He'll just squirt water on his face once in awhile too. I tell him not to do that but he doesn't listen. He's been going on hockey trips on his own, I haven't been going to all the far away ones and I know he's probably doing it more at those games.

Our team changed the water bottle policy this year - every kid brings his own bottle. NO sharing.

Also, make sure you're washing your kid's equipment often and spraying down the bag with Lysol or other antibacterial cleanser. H1N1 is a problem, but don't forget the ongoing threat of MRSA.

We get Matt's equipment professionally done once or twice a year with sanisport because of MRSA. I also wash his elbow pads, pants, etc in my steamwasher when I can during the season.
