Hey all. I am a very beginner artist--no professional classes and have done a few pencil drawings of my children, my nieces/nephews, etc. My question is: any suggestions on how to get started as a professional artist in pencil drawings/sketches of children; not so much portrait style but more in a casual setting--like from a photo of the child doing an active hobby or sport, etc. Anything realistic. Any help would be GREATLY appreciate. Feel free to send me email. Thanks so much! P.S. Here's a recent sketch of my youngest, Grey.

Great job so far! My advice is to practice and experiment. A great book for any artist is "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain". But don't be afraid to try new techniques and to get itno shading. Get a nice set of graphite pencils, too. Derwent is my favorite right now.
I've never taken classes (except some basic stuff in High School) so I don't think you HAVE to have an art education to be a great artist. It did help that my mom is an artist and would give tips and advice when I wanted it while growing up. Hope that is some help! Diamonds may be forever but horses are a girl's best friend.
