Anyone else been told this before?

I had my first doc appointment today. I've gained 20 lbs since I had my son in January of '09. My doc told me NOT to gain any weight this pregnancy. She gave me ideas on how to eat healthier and told me to start walking, but I don't understand how I'm not suppose to gain weight with a growing baby inside me.

I'm also being tested for gestational diabetes in 2 weeks. I thought I wasn't suppose to do that test until 7 months, but the doc thinks I'm at risk for it.

Anyone else ever been told NOT to gain weight before?

I certainly wasn't told that.  Kind f hard to NOT gain ANY weight during a pregnancy.  I was told that the goal was to not gain more than 15 lbs this entire pregnancy because I was already overweight.  This lil one has managed to cause me to lose 25 lbs. and I was just weighed the other day and I have only gained about 4 of those pounds back.  I think you may want to get a second opinion on that one.  I am also a full blown type 2 diabetic so it was pretty much a given when I got pregnant what would happen.  lol

I'm pregnant with twins, and my OBGYN told me I should plan to gain about 20 lbs, but I also see a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist, and she told me what your doctor did...to try to maintain my current weight. I told my OBGYN about it, and she said that is not likely...but some women who are overweight and start eating healthy and exercising actually lose weight during pregnancy...which can keep them at their current weight because the baby growing is canceling out the weight loss. She said the main thing is that I'm getting the right nutrition and getting as much exercise as possible. I don't think I'm going to worry about it too much. I'm almost 21 weeks with twins and I've only gained 4 lbs so far, but I have a feeling I'm about to start packing it on. Guess we will see!

My midwife (who is heavy herself, so she is more understanding) just told me to try to not gain too much. So far, I'm 15 weeks, and I haven't gained anything.  I obviously still have a long way to go though, so we'll see!

I wasn't told that but I didn't gain much at all. I think I gained maybe 10 lbs and my doctor wasnt concerned. my son came out completly healthy.
