I'm terrified of gaining weight with this sweet baby!

Two years ago I found out I was pregnant with my first baby! Excited was everywhere. I was also 20, and about 50 pounds lighter than I am today. I gained about 40 pounds through my first pregnancy, enjoying all those pickles and soda thinking, "25 pounds is the baby. I can lose the other no sweat." WRONG. My sweet little DD popped out and the only thing I lost was my bump. Still 40 pounds over weight. Almost a year and half since her birth and I am now 50 pounds overweight...and 8 weeks pregnant with Number 2. While I am thrilled to be pregnant...I am absolutely terrified. This is NOT where I thought I would be. I thought I'd lose 25 pounds, breasfeed, lose the other 15. Negative. I am terrified of gaining weight with this baby and terrified that I won't be able to eat healthy enough to at least maintain this weight for my baby and me. I honestly thought, since having such a BREEZE of a pregnancy the first time around, that this time would be nothing but throwing up and agony. It's not. Hardly any morning sickness. Just glowing...and hunger. I understand the concepts of eating healthy...but I'm horrified that I won't be able to implement them and keep this weight down. I'm not asking to lose weight, though it would be more than welcomed along the right circumstances, I just want some feedback on how to get enjoy my pregnancy instead of staying on the verge of a breakdown everytime I think about how huge I am and how big its going to get. Can't I maintain this weight? Does anyone have an suggestions? Words of wisdom? A big slap in the face for getting pregnant before getting healthy again?

I am currently 232 pounds. Which is what I weighed in at a couple weeks before I realized I was pregnant. My scale now reads about 236 in the mornings but I am extremely bloated most of the day. (See me making up excuses already? lol) Please help me!

Well because you were 50 lbs lighter with your first pregnancy, there's a chance that you won't gain nearly as much weight this second time around. Now that you're bigger, your body doesn't need to "store" up as much, and like many plus-sized women you may even find the weight going down. Have you talked to your doctor yet about how much weight they'd advise you to gain this time around?

I know every case is different. I am currently pregnant with my first. I started at 226lbs before pregnancy. But week 15, I was down to 216 lbs. After that I started gaining weight. Around week 22, I was 219 lbs. I am currently 25 weeks and weigh 221 lbs. My doctor said I can expect to gain a pound per week at this point.

I know each pregnancy and person is different. But I thought I'd share my story, perhaps it will make you feel better. Yes, some plus-sized women can gain a lot during pregnancy (and a lot of that might truly be water weight at the end), but it doesn't mean that your body has to or that you will. Focus on being healthy, and the rest will follow! I thnk you should just have a positive mindset. You only gained 40 lbs with your first pregnancy; that's not even that much weight, it could have been much more! And this time around you're bigger to begin with, so you may end up gaining much less than that. Don't think "about how huge you're gonna get", because you really might not get huge at all. Your body is different this time around.

I thought because I was already overweight tha I would gain a ton of weight with this pregnancy, but I haven't. I'm 38 weeks today and have only gained 15 lbs. (I would have liked to gain less, but I'm not too concerned with 15 lbs.)
I know that you want to eat healthy, and you should, but you are pregnant, and sometimes it's not going to be easy.
My best advice to you is to try to eat as healthy as you can, but don't beat yourself up over having what you want sometimes too.
I wouldn't dwell on weight gain either, because it shouldn't be something that you are thinking about. You're having a baby, so yes, you will gain weight. Just tell yourself, I need to stay healthy for this baby instead of thinking about numbers.

With my 1st pregnancy, i started about 160-170.. Delivered at 235lbs.. I didnt eat good at all, had Preeclampsia & DD was only a lil under 6lbs :( ... I breastfed & worked out a bit, dropped as low as 205lbs, but then climbed back up to 222lbs (DD is 5 now) and found out I was pregnant again..

So I started this pregnancy at 222lbs, I was so scared (still am a bit) about weight gain because of #1. I gained 8lbs in the first 5 months, but then for 2months weight gained stopped-but my belly was growing. Im 31wks right now & weight 232lbs.. Im really hoping I can keep it under 240lbs, but Im not "dieting"..

My Midwife recommends to all her patients (normal weight, plus size, doesnt matter) to follow the "Brewers Diet"... High protien, high calcium... She told me no soda, no white bread, no juices (eat the fruit- but not the juice), no junk food, eat 1 salad every day... Well Im not perfect :P And OJ was my craving during 1st trimester (sshh!) but I feel I am doing tons better with this pregnancy because of the brewers diet... Im eating lots of chicken, greek yogurt, nuts, green veggies, milk, eggs & beans...I try to munch a lot instead of only eating meals..

The weeks I do pretty good on the diet, I notice I can eat more, feel satisfied, feel better over all & dont gain weight.. ... On other weeks that we seem to busy & we eat out a bit I notice that is mainly when ill put weight on, feel like crap & am hungry more...

So check out  the brewers diet, not only is it sappose to be good for pregnancy, but Ive read high protien diets are amazing for baby (it takes lots of protien to make a baby, protien is a huge part of us)& may help mom NOT get Preeclampsia.

Omg we are exactly at the same weight stages! I was 160-170 too and had my baby at 230. I stayed at 232 for an entire year. Well randomly dropping 10-15 only to put it back on. I seriously weight myself at least twice a day to make sure I don't gain weight. Which I feel ridiculous weighting at just 8 weeks but with my daughter I would gain 10 pounds in the first trimester then drop it...then gain it back. I don't want that this time. I have seriously reversed my eating habits adn they almost match the "Brewers Diet!" I have gotten rid of "white" bread of all kinds, just whole grain here and only sometimes. Lots of fruits and veggies. Still working on keep down a salad. I am very tired so making fresh food is a challenge these last few weeks b.c I just want to sleep after I get my kiddies settled. Good job on yoru weight gain! I'd be okay with gaining maybe 10 pounds but I don't want to if I can avoid it in a healthy way. Lol. I was just about to make out a grocery list too so I'm about to check out that diet! Thanks so much! You made me feel loads better!
