Since having my daughter six months ago, I have had a really hard time getting back into the swing of things.  As a solo practitioner, I had to cut back on my workload before having her.  Now I am stuck rebuilding my client base while I'm exhausted, have no extra time, and don't feel all that motivated.  It's hard to take client calls while you're breatfeeding and to schedule appointments around an unpredictable baby.  I just wanted to hear from other moms about how they cope with the legal pactice and new motherhood.

I don't think that I'll be of much help responding to this but...I am a Maryland attorney who practiced in fields I hated (I went to law school to become a prosecutor however, the job market here is sooo tight, that that never happened). Anyway, after loving law school but hating the past 3 years since I graduated with the jobs that I've had, I decided that maybe law wasn't the way to go.

Once I became pregnant, I thought no problem, my husband and I looked at daycare providers but couldn't find one that we felt comfortable with. And, then once I had my baby, I knew that I couldn't leave him with a total stranger every single day, pay for that stranger to raise my child who I wanted to be home with, and then make a one hour commute to go to a job that I hated. It just didn't make sense. So, I quit my job and took a long hard look at what I wanted for myself. My job just wasn't fulfilling at all.

I truly believe that life shouldn't be based on a monetary system. Meaning, if you weren't being paid for the work that you did, would you still want to do your job? I answered that question with a big fat NO! I've decided to start my own in home daycare so I can make some moolah but still be home to raise my son. And, I couldn't be happier.
