My six year old daughter loves singing and acting. We have joined this journey in a years time. She did her first summer theatre camp in Aug 2007 and loved it. Which brought me to find her a place to take classes. She started in Jan in a broadway babies class. After the second week of her class, her teacher came to me and said that they would like Katelyn to audition for their proffessional production of the sound of music. We did the auditions in March and she got the role of Gretl. It was a wonderful show. She was so heart broken when the show was over she ended up going right into a two week theatre camp with the same company and preformed in "A year with Frog and Toad". She then did another summer theatre camp with a different company and is currently doing a class with the wonderful people that saw she had talent and gave her a chance at her first professional production. She is going to be doing that show "Annie Jr" in December.
She recently has expressed interest in wanting to be on TV. We live in PA and I don't know how to get started in that type of thing, so I found Cafe Mom and here we are. Seeing where this journey takes us.
Would like to talk with anyone that has had this type of experience. Thanks.
Well I have a 2 year old son who is a musical anomaly. He can identify instruments in songs. One night we were lying down for bed and i had on a lite rock station and a billy Joel song came on. He popped his head up and said "piano!" I was shocked by that but thought it was just a fluke. Then one day in the car we were listening to Linda Ronstadt, her Mariachi album. And he started playing air violin! I mean what 2 year old can identify instruments like that. He even writes his own songs. Currently he sings "I no Want it" and "No Mama" these songs are sung before bed and before bath! :-)
SO I have taken him with me to his cousins piano lessons and he enjoys that. And once he is old enough he will start music classes! He has a real guitar and sleeps with it sometimes. You can see some of his videos on YouTube just search for Aubie2296.
Cant wait to hear about other talents on here!
Have a great week!
Vicky

my son Dalton is 2 and has a natural talent for modeling. he loves to have his picture taken and will pose for anyone. people love to take his pic it is not unusual for a stranger to ask us if they can take his pic. he is also a people person and very well mannered i think that is why he would do so well as a perfessional. when we go to the studio to have pics done he gets started right away the photographer does not have to do anything except take the picture.
Hi
My daughter Ansley has several talents... first she is 3 years old. She can sing... anything. She can memorize anything. She sang "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" at the Little Miss Perfect pageant that will air on WE (in Jan-Feb 09)...
She can dance... she has two dance style "pro-am" routines for pageants that she has memorized... so we put her in ballett about a month ago... our good friend has a daughter in the NC Ballett in Charlotte, she said Ansley has good feet, so we're giving ballett a go.
She can read, and she's very very animated when it comes to her "plays"...
In February I took her to an interview competition for (get this...) practice for interview for an upcoming pageant... I didn't know what kind of interview competition it was, but it was scouts for agencies out of Atlanta. Ansley did an amazing job, and won the 0-4 overall whatever and was scouted by all the agencies there... and because I was working full time as a financial controller at the time, I never took her to the auditions...
I feel like crap about that, and I she really wants to be on TV. So I was laid off from my job last week, and I've decided to devote myself to making her dreams come true.
Any direction would be GREATLY appreciated.
A great way to start is to get your child involved with the local theatres. Make sure he/she really loves to memorize lines and appear in front of people before moving to the next step. The larger cities near you will have some limited opportunities for casting - print jobs, commercials, etc. You'll want to find an agent who works with children. Remember, however, NOT to pay any fees to these agents. If they ask you for money to represent your child, then they are not performing a legitimate agency function.
There are lots of great resources out there... be sure to check out AreUaStar.com as one place that will give you advice and help you determine if your child had what it takes to be a star.
GOOD LUCK!!

One of my daughters friends joined the group of Theater Geeks on facebook (in humor). I replied that what is really needed is a group for Moms of Theater Geeks, or at least a support group of some type.
My DD is 15 and has studied piano since at 5, clarinet age 10, voice age 11, began her community, college, and HS theater career age 13, and french horn at 14. She is now taking students for private lesson for piano, clarinet and voice. In community and college stages she is competing in auditions with college students and adults and winning leads and is now having directors asking her to come to their theaters. We have found though, that these community/college theater groups to be a much healthier environment than the high school theater setting.
Right now she is in rehearsals for Anthing Goes (college theater), preparing for vocal District Solo & Ensemble and auditions for South Bend Symphony Orchestra Youth Arts Competition. Also will be student director for the high schools musical. She is also in the schools varsity band and pep band.
I look forward to finding other mom's whose kids are of similar nature for support, problem solving and encouragement.

my daughter dances. shes been dancing since she was four yrs old and absolutely loves it. this year she is taking ballet, tap, jazz, irish step soft shoe, irish step hard shoe and pre-pointe ballet. she also wanted to join the company this year too but we found out the classes will be during one of her other classes so it wouldnt have worked out. she was a bit disapointed but she understands why this is her irish step costume from last year..
