Hi everyone,
My 13-month-old still isn't sleeping through the night consistently. On a good night, he'll sleep from about 7:30 to 5, and then will go back down again after an hour of play.
On a bad night, which is a more frequent occurence, he will wake up around 3:30 or 4 and can't put himself back to sleep, even if I let him moan or cry for 1/2 an hour or more. He's always exhausted around that time, but he needs to be fed or comforted before he will go back to sleep.
Any suggestions for what to do? CIO just doesn't seem to work for him.
Thanks for your help!

Oh dear i understand your pain. My DS (23 mths) still doesn't sleep through the night either. We have tried CIO but that usually ends up with him gettting to upset that he starts making himself sick. So we usually get up, get him a cup and rock him back to sleep. Sorry i dont have any advise for you, wished i could help but unfortunatley we are having the same issue.
do you remember who wrote that book? I looked at Waldenbooks.com and the only one i could find was just "Solve your Child's Sleep Problems by Richard Ferber" I just wanted to see if that was the same one that you were talking about.
Have you tried putting him down earlier?? Night waking can be caused from being overtired. My son goes to sleep at 630 pm. You could try it and see what happens! Also, is it possible he is hungry? Oh, and some tidbit info. Babies sleep the best in the first part of the night, and the last. It is common for them to wake up in the middle. Maybe try rousing him a little before you know he will wake up. Say like 30 min, so he starts another sleep cycle? Then, he may start leaning to go back to sleep.
