They gave us this creed at the FRG meeting and I wanted to share it... Have a great weekend...
We Are The Guard's Family...
It was our hands that let go waving bravely as our father marched into the dark and thundering distance, marched courageously into the cannon's roar... We are the Guard's family, waiting patiently at the wooden gate for news of the battle--- the battle that rang freedom throughout this great land. We walk that battlefield in the mornings of our memories,we walk it in our own hearts, a place where death and sacrifice give way to creation: through our father's blood and our family's love was the great country born.
We are the Guard's family.
With open arms we await the return of our husbands, fathers, sons and brothers- - from Bunker Hill, Gettysburg and the world wars that threatened to end the world- - to end all that we love and understand and have fought for, the very heart of the great land. Patiently to this day we wait for their return from lands near and far: we are the guard's family.
We have watched, indeed imagined in our grief and dreams, our father's face change from loving companion and stalwart protector to the brave and anonymous countenance of the in-known Guard. It is he who brings love and comfort to sons and daughters of many languages, of many lands.
Through our father's loving hands, we become the young son, comforted in the ravages of fire and war and flood; we become the mother reunited with her child, the daughter whose tears are finally dried. We watch as our father forges ahead in the starless dark against fear and sorrow, guardian of peace and freedom, protector of a better tomorrow. We, too, are protectors, keepers of freedom in our schools and communities.
We would raise our own voices against those who oppose the unalienable right to live in equality and freedom - to speak one's mind in the light and safety of day.
Our husband and fathers, mothers and wives, sons and daughters return, all Guards from their missions of strife and peace; we rejoin hands. A family in the eternal march for freedom.
I Am A Guard Wife....
It was my hand that caught up the plow my husband let fall when he answered the call at Lexington and Concord. Through the dark years of our country's birth I fought too working the land, rearing the children, nursing the sick and wounded... Conservator of the life for which he fought for... I am a Guard Wife and I am proud... For two hundred years in every armed conflict, I have said good-bye with aching heart and smiling face when my husband went to war. I knew the perilous days of 1812 and suffered the searing again of the Civil war. Through the holocaust of two world wards I waited lonely and fearful. Yet I never despaired for I knew the stubborn will of guardsman. I know the shining courage which makes him so valiant a soldier and I have matched it with my woman's courage that deals with living, not dying, shouldering added responsibilities, holding the family together, bolstering moral. Preserver of the American ideal in a world at war.
I am a Guard Wife, and I am proud... In-peace, I work beside my civilian soldier to build a better world.. I put aside the annoyances of drill week-ends and camp periods... For I know that these make him the bone and sinew of our country's defenses... I know he is learning the skills and discipline that make him ready in emergencies. When he protects others from danger, preserves the peace or gives support and aid in disaster... I understand and give him my support.. For that has always been my job, nurturer,comforter- the healer...
I am a Guard wide and I am proud... When I hear fearful talk of abuse of power growing into dictatorship or read stories of military take-overs... I am not afraid for my country. For I knew the Guard trained, skilled and strong. Each man matured and strengthened in the home I have build. To be tough, independent thinking and self-reliant...Civilian builder. Soldier protector. Custodian of Democracy. And by his side I stand wife of Heroes. Mother of Generations. Keeper of Ideal. Custodian of the Future. I do not fear for America. For I am a guard Wife and I am proud...

My brother comes home at the end of this month : )
Those were great! I was wondering is there any chance you could e-mail me one of those about the Guard Wife, but put in mother? I don't have one, and would really like to have one. I really don't believe my DIL has one. As she is not behind my BS being in the Guards. And, she doesn't like the fact that I support him for his dessicion. So, there is a bit of a problem between us now that didn't use to be there. He re-enlisted after his 2 tour over seas. Seems I'm in the dog house for standing behind him in whatever choices he makes as a grown man. But, I'm like that with all my kids. So, I'm just praying on that one. So, see I'l really like on that says, "mother, or mom"! Thanks. Oh, and my e-mail is elijha@embarqmail.com. Thank you for sharing.
Ladies-
Thanks so much for sharing these. My dh deploys in just a few days for the first time. These brought me some much needed comfort. Your timing was perfect:)
