Looking to expand!

Hey everyone! We are thinking of adding a new little one to our family (of the four legged kind). I am wondering where is the best place to get a new dog? We have some idea of what we want but we have no idea where the best place is to get one. We have a dog and a cat already and so we were looking for something on the smaller side... does anyone have any ideas?!?! Thanks in advance!!

Your local rescue group! :D You may be able to find a breed specific rescue closeby too. Or a reputable breeder. Personally i'm not a fan of pet store dogs/cats. But that's just me. :)

Petfinder. You can search for small dogs or a certain breed.

Another vote for the local Shelter/ Humane Society and possibly Petfinder as well. I'm not going to get on my soap box about pet stores right now! :D You may not need to get a smaller dog just because you already have some pets. It really depends on the size of your place and how much time you have to exercize the pets. That is why going to a shelter is best! They can talk over your options with you and help you choose because they get to know the personalities of the animals! Good luck!

I always try the animal control shelter first. I guess I feel like those animals are the most desperate for new homes. Other than taking pets from acquaintances who couldn't keep them or taking strays, animal control shelters are the only places I have ever gotten a pet from. Except my fish. Some of them were given to me by an aquaintance, but some did come from the store. Anyway, good luck! I hope you find the perfect pet for your family soon!

I personally have always gotten my animals from shelters. I did use petfinders to check out dogs at my local shelters for my newest pup. They often have pure breeds as well as mixed. One of my dogs is a pure bison frise that i got at a local shelter. You may have to look for a while, but it is worth it.

I personally would go to the local shelter. There are tons of amazing dogs looking for good homes : )
