My cat doesn't tolerate people coming to my home at ALL. Babies, kids, adults, anyone. She sits in a corner and repeatedly hisses at them and won't let me touch her until they leave. She won't use her litter box until they leave also. I'm very concerned for my precious kitty because I'm going to be having a baby soon. I REALLY am scared about her stress level once the baby is here. I am not worried about the babies safety so please don't comment about me needed to get rid of the cat. She is like one of my children I love my cat DEARLY. Also, my friend is going to be staying with me for 2 weeks after my baby is born (she's visiting from out of state) so its going to be a double killer on my poor little girl!!! I'm seeing her vet soon so I can ask for advise then also but I just wanted to see if any of you other animal lovers may know how I can help my kitty stay as stress free as possible. Thanks so much for reading!

The main thing I've done with my cat to make the transition to a family pet is to give him space and a safe spot. I've always taught my daughter to keep her distance and be respectful of the cat. She's almost 20 months old and now will pet gently for the most part. However, babies crying can be very overwhelming to cats (or at least it is to mine). He knows that if he goes in our bedroom and I can tell he's stressed, I will close him up in the room to give him some quiet time.
