Tick Bites?? (PIOG)

Our 6 month old Parson Terrier (kin to a Jack russell) had a tick on him and my husband tried to remove it but didn't get the head out. I am not sure if it was a deer tick or a dog tick, but it was really swollen.

How serious is this? Should I take him to the vet or just watch him for symptoms (fever, stiff/ sore joints, lathargic, loss of appetite)??

Any advice welcome!! Thanks!

is he vaccinated against Lyme disease?  I would take him to the vet, AND get him on flea/tick/mosquito prevention ASAP.
