Please take a moment to introduce yourself by answering the following questions:

1.   What kind of business have you started (or are planning to start)?

2.   Why did you choose to become an entrepreneur?

3.   Your biggest challenge at the moment?

  • My name is Erika, I live in Missouri.  My business is creating jewelry for YOUR occasion.  I started using my creativity by making for myself and being asked where I got it.  I believe my challenges are living in a midsize town, mainly college. Still trying to fit in getting a website up.

  • Hi everyone, my name is LisaC.
At the present I'm a SAHM and I also Home School. I joined because I wanted to support my friend. Also to see if I can pick up some advice about owning your own business and managing your home effectively.

  • Hello everyone. My name is Angelia and I live in Corona, Ca.  I am a Referring Travel Agent with YTB. I decided to become and Entrepenuer because I got sick and tired of companies not paying me what I was worth and cheating me out of money. My struggle at the moment is getting people to see the vision. Getting people to want something better from themselves. I seem to want it more for them.

  • 1.  I'm involved in several business ventures.  My husband and I have a Heating & Air Conditioning Contracting company, and I started a small Admin. Support business.

    2.  My husband was/is my biggest motivator for self employment.  He grew up the child of a grocery store owner and he says his father always told him to own his own business and that what he has done since I've known him.

    3.  Right now my biggest challenge is finding a name for my Admin Support biz, and trying to come up with a catch phrase/tag.

  • Hi BusinessDiva - in my FT work (I'm a PR manager for an Association) I've hired virtual assistants/independent admin support specialists to handle some of our work.  For instance when I've needed a conference speaker's presentation transcribed I usually contact one of the virtual assistants in our area.  Our office staff are just two swamped to handle that work.

I think you're in a growing business field.  I've heard a lot of women like the freedom it provides them to do different kinds of work while having the flexibility to be home with their kids (for those that are moms of little ones).   Are you a member of the International Virtual Assistants Association (IVAA)?  There is an African American woman who has received quite a bit of attention for the way she has promoted the VA field (she is a mentor) and her own VA company. I think she is from Maryland and her business is apparently thriving (I've read about her in media clippings and news releases).

There are definitely many businesses in the community that are too small for full time admin staff and like the cost effectiveness of using an independent contractor to handle their admin work.  Do you specialize in supporting particular kinds of businesses?

  • Hi, I'm Shelley and I am a SAHM.  I started my business which is http://srbryant.MyWorldResults.com .  It's a very good business.  I know all of the mommies out there would love to save money when shopping for their loved ones.  This is a great deal and opportunity.  I started the business because I couldn't afford child care anymore.  So I decided to stay home with my son and start a business.  The biggest challenge is to get people motivated about working for themselves.  Punching a clock is not the way to go.  Please feel free to check out my site, it's free and there is no obligation.

  • Hello ladies,

I'm a work at home mom from Brooklyn. My thing is eComerce and Web  Development. I started out creating an eCommunity for People of Color, www.msoyonline.com, and I've been expanding on that ever since. My latest projects revolve around creating networks for Black Women, I just started the www.blackmomsclub.com and I'm working on Sistapreneurs Rock, a web blog for Black Biz Women (http://sistapreneursrock.blogspot.com/) My thing is basically loving to type and share postive information to the Black Community. My biggest obstical though is marketing my business projects better.

i'm very glad that I joined the group.
