Hi Everyone,
Just joined, and thought you should know that now Moms In Business Network is part of the group. Moms In Business Network is the leading national association representing Entrepreneurial, Executive & CEO moms. I'm, Gina Robison-Billups, founder and president of this organization.
We are building a national Multicultural Advisory Council (MAC) for the organization, and you feedback on issues you feel are really important to moms in business would be so incredibly important to us. I have been invited by the Obama admin Liason office to have a "seat at the table" with other national women business leaders (I represent the working moms). I can't fully represent until I feel comfortable that we have a well-rounded voice - that's the job of the MAC.
Here's what I'd like to know:
What's important to you (tell more stories- they drive home the point)?
Anyone you'd like to nominate for the National MAC or your state's MAC. We're building them in all 50 states (eventually).
Thanks!
Gina
Hello! Nice to have you be apart of the group! I think that what you have created/founded, sounds wonderful. I'm hoping that you visit the forum frequently because many do not due to time, patience, mood, etc. I know that everyone faces hard times, and right now there are many people facing them. A lot of women that I have conversated with have become discouraged with being entreprenuers, or they are scared to wear the many hats that they have to wear when starting a business. It also does not help that for whatever reason, our people of color can NOT be the most supportive at times when it comes to starting and building a business. Many hear it repeatedly that they need to just go to work and do their business later. And sometimes when you consistenly hear something, you start to feel like maybe it's right.
We need more support in the entreprenuer world. It seems as if the government has began to push entreprenuership into people's heads after this "recession" has happened. I've been hearing about these supposed grants that's going to become available more for people to launch businesses. But if people paid attention they would know that that isn't anything new. They been had these minority and women in business grants or what not, you just have to look for them and apply yourself. Anyway, sometimes I type on because I have SO much to talk about an SO many questions. It would be really nice to become a friend with you. Thanks for becoming apart of the group and the taking the time to introduce yourself. Take care, and I hope to chat with you soon!

Hi LaQueesha,
Thank you for your great note! I totally understand. I had a conversation/meeting with Governor Richardson awhile back and told him straight out that the SBA seemed as though it was working against women entrepreneurs.
I appreciate your note. I'm supposed to send an email to the SBA tomorrow. This adds fuel to my fire.
It's late and I started my new year by cleaning out my garage ( my back hurts, but it's nice to have a fresh start). I'll talk to you later, right now I have rest and get the heating pad. LOL.

Hi Gina and welcome!
I think Cafemom, MomMasterminds.com, InternetBasedMoms.com, iVillage and countless other online networking groups for women are saying one message loud and clear - there are a lot of women who are organized and ready to use our potential as working women, heads of households and passionate moms to help reshape and reposition our country for the benefit of our nation.
Women aren't just chatting in these groups they are forming powerful connections to help advance their goals to earn a living and help boost our economy so our families and communities can thrive.
Here's what I would ask that you to share with your committee: the Internet isn't just for the Bill Gates techies...everyday women and moms are using the Internet to generate FULL-TIME incomes for themselves in support of their families. I think resources and education need to be made available to women who are currently out of work or unable to secure income for their families. Many of these women can and could work themselves as online, Internet entrepreneurs.
Speak to the women who are operating as online administrative assistants (virtual assistants) and earning $50K or selling their homemade jewelry or copywriting for small businesses or managing any number of viable and sustainable businesses online from their homes. Helping women to gain some level of financial independence through the cost effective platform offered through the Internet is a very effective use of government resources.
That's the message I hope you can share.
I look forward to getting more of your feedback and ideas in this forum.
Sharon
I concur with this that was said in this post. This is 200% true. More women,(and excuse me for saying men too), need more resources made available to them to aide them with becoming successful entreprenuers.
I AM VERY APOLOGETIC for overlooking this post responding back to what I said. I don't know how I overlooked it and responded to what PR Mom said in this posting. Silly me(LOL). ANyway, thanks for even taking the time to respond,(especially since your back was hurting), when my back aches, I don't want to talk to anyone. And it's really neat that you are involved in the entreprenuer world like you are. I would love to know more about your duties/positions/ authorities/etc. if it isn't too much. I can use some plant food while I'm blossoming,(lol). I hope that all is well and I look foward to speaking with you further.
