Hi! My name is Julian. I am a 22 year old mother of two. Last Monday I was told by my doctor that I may have fibromyalgia. She perscribed Symbalta for me, and I have to go back in about 2 weeks to see how it is working. I would love any advice, information, or help that anyone can offer as I figure out what is going on with my body and what to do from here.

Hi Julian...and Welcome!

My name is Gena and I'm a 34 year old mom of 5 so I understand how hard it must be to deal with the symptoms of Fibromyalgia while still managing an active and lively household. What symptoms do you deal with most often? My illness manifested itself after the birth of my son who is now 3. Suddenly, I went from being active and "get up and go" to needing and wanting a nap each day... and not being able to run errands b/c my body would ache so badly. I was fortunate in that I was diagnosed quickly. Just know that you aren't alone. I hope that Cymbalta works for you. Each person has a different set of symptoms and meds that will work for them so don't be discouraged if someone else says that they didn't have success with it. And don't be shy about letting your doctor know if it works/doesn't work. I hope that it helps you and enables you to make Fibro a detail in your  life and not the headline. :-)  Great to have you! Look forward to your sharing!

Hi Julian and welcome. I am 36 years old and a mother of 4. 3 of my children are 3 and under. I have had symptoms of fibro since age 9 but was not diagnosed until 10 years ago. I have tried every medication out there for fibro but have not had much great success. I am presently on nuerontin, motrin and norco. This seems to be what works best for me. Some days are great, some are ok and others are downright horrid because of the pain and fatigue. I try to keep up as best as I can but a lot of the time my house is not what I would like it to be. Feel free to contact me anytime.

Hi Julian, welcome.  I'm Sandra I also have 2 kids but mine are 27 and 23.  I've been diagnosed with fibro. for over 10 years.  I have a lot of other health problems also.

Fibro. is something that's hard for others to understand cause we don't have a cast or other outward sign of illness.  Some days it hurts just to brush my hair.  I have found that you have to limit yourself to what the most important thing to accomplish for that day.

I take Lyrica, tramadol and sometimes Norco.  You'll find what works for you and somedays it feels like nothing works.  lol  Feel free to vent and/or ask questions.

Thank you guys for your support. My most frequent symptoms is pain in my back and knees and being tired. I can sleep for 10 hours, wake up and still be exhausted. I originally went to the doctor, and he thought I had strained the muscles in my back. However the medication he gave me actually made my knees and shoulders hurt so bad that I couldn't move. So I went to my doctor and she pushed on several points through out my back and joints. All of which hurt terribly, so I was crying when I sat up. She told me that I have all the main points for fibromyalgia. That was on Monday. She gave me Cymbalta, and it seems to be helping I think.

The hardest thing for me right now is how it affects my kids. I need to be able to take care of them. And some times I can't even stand up with out wanting to cry. I have noticed that my symptoms are much worse the next day if I lay around and do nothing. If I stay up and moving, then I tend to feel better.

Yup...staying active is key but so very hard to do when you are so tired. I'm shocked she didn't give u anything for pain when it gets like that.

I have 800 mg Ibprofen for now. Since taking the cymbalta it doesn't seem t be too bad. So I am tying to avoid taking it if I don't have to. I've never liked to take medication in the first place, so this is hard for me.
