Fibro and pregnancy

I was diagnosed with fibro in 2007. I had already been to two pregnancies and thought I was finished having children. I met my husband in 2008 and we still didn't plan on having any children. A few months ago I started having allergies to all the medications I usually take including my birth control. Without birth control I have become pregnant.

I was wondering if any of you women had your children after your diagnosis. I am a little nervous about it all. My diagnosing doctor told me that I should never have children again. She said my body couldn't handle the stress and it would shut down. She said I probably wouldn't make it. Now since then my health has improved although I still have fibro and many symptoms. At the time of diagnosis I needed assistance to walk and do everything. Since then I have not only returned to the work force but I am also currently attending our local university.

That being said ever since I got pregnant I can feel my body going back down hill. My lab work has been proving it as well. My thyroid is acting up again and my blood sugar level is elevated. To top if off I keep having dreams where I die during delivery. I don't know what to think or what to do.

Any encouragement or experience with anything of the sorts would be great for me to hear at this point. Thank you for listening ladies.

I had fibro when i gave birth to my son which he is 29 now...Trust in the Lord above and you'll do just fine, also do follow your DR.s order very closely...I will put you on a prayer chain if you'd like me  but I'll pray for you with every prayer i say...I know its very scary...after i had my son my DR. recommended that I get my tubes tied since it wasn't safe for me to have kids...So you might want to ask your DR. what he or she recommends to do...(((HUGS)))love prayers fern

Did you actually have a doctor tell you that you would die if you tried to have a baby with fibro? She should be hanged! Many of us have had babies after our fibro diagnosis. Yes, many of our symptoms flared-up and things got worse for a time. After I delivered, I felt better immediately. Each person is different. Don't let her poor bedside manner cause you undue anxiety. I am a nurse, and I have heard some incredible things come out of doctor's mouths. That one is one of the worst! What an idiot!

Thank you ladies. Yes the doctor told me my body would shut down completely because it couldn't handle the stress of the delivery. I realize doctors say some pretty asinine things because a different doctor told me my ovarian tubes were so scared that I would never safely pass an egg through that could be fertilized and I am on my 3rd pregnancy.

I am just still nervous about it all. The good thing is after the beginning of May I won't have school or work so I will just be able to focus on myself and the baby with fairly little stress. That will help a lot.

Your OB told you that your ovarian tubes were "scared" and wouldn't pass an egg through? because of the fibro? Wow. Ok. Well, we know what to think of that medical advice. You are not going to die in delivery because of fibro. I can't believe a doctor told you that. You probably will feel worse. No doubt, you are already feeling the stress of the pregnancy in your body. Sounds like you may need to see a high risk pregnancy OB since your blood sugar and thyroid are acting up. Just do everything your doc tells you. Take your MVI, get as much rest as you can, try to take a walk every day to keep your muscles warmed up and active. Don't worry-you are not going to die. Your former doctor should be shot. He/she is causing you so much unnecessary stress.

No. no. The scaring had nothing to do with the fibro. The Gyno told me this when I was in high school after a laproscopic surgery on my ovaries. I have a lot of cycsts that have ruptured in my life time and she said they were very scared. That was a completely different doc than the one that said it was a bad idea for me to ever get pregnant again. I have an amazing OB and I have yet to talk to him about the thyroid and blood sugar. My regular blood work up with my family practice doctor found out the other. She is faxing the order to my OB who I will see in a few weeks. I am noticing the stress affecting my body I am just uncertain as to how difficult it is going to become. As soon as this semester is over I will be able to relax. Until then I am scheduled to go full speed all semester with a very busy schedule. I am hoping my body allows it to continue and I am hoping the stress of labor is not too much. It is comforting knowing that other women have successfully made it through labor.

Thank you. I wish my pregnancy concerns were all of my concerns but I have more stress than I really need at the moment which isn't helping anything. I have a feeling you ladies may get sick of me by time it is all over. I have also just recently found out my ex who is the father of my daughter is on drugs. The last month she has been coming home telling me lots of odd things so I started investigating and asking questions and found out he is on drugs and his girlfriend is beating him up. I just have so much going on. On top of that I recently found out I am being sued. Life is just throwing me a lot of curve balls this pregnancy included.

Thank you. In order to make it through all of this I just might have to come here and vent a lot. My life is always chaotic and the more I try to avoid it the more it seems to find me.

My name is Kirsten. I was diagnosed with fibro 10 years ago. My first pregnancy was relatively uncomplicated by the fibro. My 2nd pregnancy I had thyroid issues and a lot of pain. I was put on vicodin for the pain throughout that pregnancy, with the blessing of ob and the specialists. My 3rd baby was a suprise. I too was told that physically another pregnancy was not wise. I was put on the pill, took it religiously and found mysself pregnant when my daughter was 7 months old. This pregnancy drained me of everything both physically and mentally. I had issued during this pregnancy that I had never had before. My pain increased to an all time high and I was put on norco to attempt to manage it, again with the blessing of both ob and the specialists. After delivery my pain did not get any better. My son is now 8 months old and the pain has not gotten any better and I've been told that this is most likely my new normal. I had my tubes tied 6 weeks after my son was born. Fibro will not kill you but it can leave you feeling as if you are dying. I am here for you. I know the fear and I know what its like to be pregnant while going through the issues fibro leaves you with. Send me a pm anytime. I will gladly give you my number so we can talk more. Take care of yourself.
