Question about circumcision

Ok, I do not want to start a big debate about it but I am honestly curious as to the thoughts of you ladies and what the Bible says.  I realize that in the Torah it does say to circumcise your sons.  But then I was reading in Acts I think, and it said that Paul was telling the people not to circumcise their sons.  So what is the real deal?  Is ok not to do it?  I didn't have my son circumcised, just because I thought it was painful and medically unnecessary.  For any one who did, I think that is okay too.  It is your descision to make.  I just want info from the Bible and any thoughts from all of you.

Yes, the torah says to circumcise.  When Paul is talking about circumcision in Acts, he is not referring to infant circumcision, but to a ritual conversion for gentile believers.  They are trying to figure out if the gentiles need to convert to judaism (through circumcision).  We have circumcised both of our boys, simply because it is an act of obedience.  God told Abraham that he had to circumcise and the rest of his generations.  We are even as gentiles considered to be son of Abraham.  It is a hard decision to make, so I don't push people either way.  We didn't know what we wanted to do, so this was the deal breaker, I guess.

Hi!  Just wanted to add my 2 cents---From what I am given to understand, Gentiles don't HAVE to circumcise.  To force it would imply that we are saved by our own actions.  The circumcision of Jews was begun on G-d's orders, to differentiate between Jew and Gentile, along with the kosher diet, etc.  They were told to stand out as G-d's chosen people, both physically and behaviorally.

Unless you're born Jewish, circumcision is really a matter of choice.  With that said, all 3 of my boys are circ'd.  My ex was not, and he always felt like "a freak" (his words, not mine), because his dad and all his friends were "trimmed" and he wasn't.  He didn't want his kids singled out, so he pushed for the cut.  I, on the other hand, was led down the primrose path by the dr., with that old bull about penile cancer, so I went along with it.

Apparently men are more vain than we are (LOL), because I've heard quite a few other women say they only got their boys done because daddy wanted Jr. to look like him.

LOL!!  That was my husband's first argument.  My argument was "For how long and how often will your son be looking at your "member"?  Not likely!  Anyway thanks for the info.  I apprecciate it from all you ladies.

Shalom!

Its a matter of personal spiritual conviction as a gentile believer.  If you feel you should, then you should.  If you felt led that you should not, then you should not.

Quoting lanimommy81:

I think she means this:

Act 15:24  Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:

I have the same question as the OP. Is circumcision commanded for followers of Yeshua today? I also reference the letter to the Galatians:

Gal 5:1  Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
Gal 5:2  Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.
Gal 5:3  For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.

Gal 6:12  As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.
Gal 6:13  For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.
Gal 6:14  But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
Gal 6:15  For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
Gal 6:16  And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
Gal 6:17  From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.

Also...

1Co 7:18  Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised.
1Co 7:19  Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.
1Co 7:20  Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.
