I am still on the search for an affordable labeling option that won't take a month to arrive!

I saw that some people suggest using these printable fabric from craft stores to print out your own labels......  Hmmm, sounds doable right?   Just a few questions.......

Anyone ever tried using these for anything?

Do they shrink a lot in the wash?

Does the color / printing stay after washing or does it fade / bleed, ect?

If the printing does fade, any ideas on how to make it more color fast for washing?

These printable fabric sheets are kind of spendy - is it worth the price to have an easy way to make your own labels?

Does this fabric fray badle when cut? If I'm cutting it into a lot of small labels I don't want it fraying away to nothing....

Here are links to some of the brand and types available through JoAnns.

I'm not sure what kind of printable fabric you plan to use, but I have used them for gifts and dont know too much about what happened to them after they received them other than my friend washed t-shirts that I made with the iron on type material and then dried them in a dryer and of course they got all wrinkly and melted.  So be careful if you use that stuff.  I also used some other kind a few years back that was somewhat like crodss stick material for a quilt.  So fr I havent heard any bad things about it, but dont remember the name of the stuff.

Reading the packages this stuff comes in has been a deterent for me as I'm always afriad of making something and then have it be destroyed and I hate wasting my time and money.  I wish you luck in your project, but it may be simpler to have labels made by the experts.  If you have something you want to do soon, try using fabric paint and adding your own artwork  and info that way.

IDK but was wondering ... can you not do this with an embroidery machine? I'd find a friend with a embroidery machine and see if they'd be willing to try ... doing several lines on a piece of fabric that you could fashion a label out of .... just a thought, I could be totally wrong ... but ... you never know !! Good luck to ya

I have tried this, printed on fabric. I would suggest using only black ink - as other colors wil fade after first wash. Black will fade also but still show enough to see who its from. I wasn't too happy with this option.

As for the embroidery suggestion - if it's a quilt label than it's doable. But if you need a small label the embroidery won't work as it will be way to small (so it won't come out clear or readable) and bulky for what you need. It would really all depend on what size label you are using.

Hope this helps :)

I know this post is a few months old, but I thought this may help someone out there.

And this one is a little cheaper but the designs are not as cute:
