Love Jars

A friend of mine sent me a link to this FaceBook page, and I wanted to share it with y'all. It is called Love Jars. Basically it is repurposed containers filled with "love" (little notes, affirmations, or quotes), decorated, & given as a gift. You can make them for any occasion.
If the link doesn't work, there is an eHow page too.
(If you need to search it on FB, type in "l o v e j a r s". If you don't put the spaces, it won't come up on the search.)

I love this idea! I'm actually making one of these for my husband... hes deploying to Afghanistan. Can anyone help me come up with a cute "theme" or "jar" to decorate.... I would like to write on the back of pictures somehow. The jar can't be glass or breakable though.... hmmmm....

A friend of mine did something similar years ago and just glued fabric to mini-shoeboxes or different sized gift boxes. Then decorated the fabric with fabric glue calling them "Treasure" boxes.

If you want something small and pocket size so that he can carry i,t try using a mint tin.  You can decorate the outside with a photo he can just glance at and add photos and notes inside that he can go thru during spare time.  May your husband be safe.

During the summer I acquired some small tins that had chocolates in them and I want to make Christmas ornaments out of them with love notes inside.  I just moved and they got packed, so I hope I can find them in time.

You might also try a squash book. They are 4x4 inch and hold somethink like 10 pictures or pictures and notes. I made one for my husband when he was in Iraq and he said all there thought it was really awesome and he loved the book.

I have sent glass jars to Iraq numerous of times to my hubby and had no problems. The trick to it not breaking is wrapping in bubble wrap and then newspaper.. you can do a love theme... decorate the jar with hearts and inside little love notes and quotes.

Or you could also get a small plastic vitamin bottle... An Altoids-type of tin would be perfect too, like one PP suggested. You could cut a pic of you & him or maybe your whole family, & stick it up on the inside of the lid.

It really is a very versatile gift... You can do one with inspirational sayings for a get-well, romantic sayings for V-day or a birthday, scripture versus if you are religious... the possibilities are endless  :)
I can't wait to make my first one! I think I am going to make an "I Love You" one for my hubby for Christmas. There is a picture on the FB page of one made of hard disks- I might do that one because my hubby is a computer nerd!

Thanks so much for the idea! I'm going to love making these for my hubby. He likes it when I send things to Afghanistan that he can just toss when he's coming back home so that he doesn't have to much to pack.

They have a lot of plexiglass containers out there now.  How about X's and O's for a title?

Thanks for sharing. I love the idea. This is something I can use when my husband deploys or even just around the house. Life gets busy sometimes, that it's nice to have one just sitting on the container to look at and re-afirm our love for each other. Just Brillant!!
