Would love to make these for my parents this year! What kind of paint did (or do) you put on them? Did you seal it with anything? what size of tile did you use???

And I would love to see pics. of the finished masterpiece if anyone has them!

I don't know if this is exactly what you are looking for, but here is a tutorial for photo tile coasters...

Also, I made some tile coasters previously for my M.I.L. , I decoupaged fancy paper napkins on I think 4 inch tiles, using Aileens paper napkin applique glue. I used a few coats to make sure it was sealed really well & gave it a few coats of spray varnish. Backed the bottom with sheet cork & that was probably over 5 years ago & they are still holding up really well. (Surprised even me, not a tear in any of them!) Hope some of this helps.

Happy Crafting! :)

I have seen them made with store-bought tiles that are already painted too.  You can get some really nice ones that they call accent tiles.  There are usually flowers, animals, fruit, or all sorts of other designs.  If you are painting them, I think the key would be in the sealing of it.  My SIL has made us some items that involved painted glass and they didn't hold up very well.

Does anyone have any idea what I seal the paint with?

I made this one using a rubber stamp and StazOn Ink.  It is an unsealed 4 inch tile.  I stamped the image, let it dry, sprayed it with a very light coat of clear spray paint, and then added cork to the bottom.  I got my tiles at Lowes.

I made most everyone (at least every household) in my family a set of coasters and a matching candle.  I used Stazon ink, and then when it dried sprayed it with acrylic sealer. I use the felt things for the bottom of furniture for each corner...

Some people bake theirs... I wouldn't, unless everything you are using is non-toxic or you never use your oven, because then you are allowing toxins where you cook food.

We used glass for our coasters, they came from a picture frame with small peices of glass, but big enough to make for coasters, we took glass peices out which were 3 each to the frame, and let kids use puffy paint on opposite side, let it dry and ready to go. this way if you decide you want to redo it later on, then youjust peel it off and redo again. I can post pictures if needed. edges are rounded so safe for fingers, and it has little rubber ends on each corner for safe setting when set on coffee table.

no need to varnish or seal, just peel and redo.
