My grandson was born in april with a birthmark on his face.. At first the pediatrician said it was a mongolian spot then he said a few weeks later its a hair nevus. Well anyway when we took the baby for his shots we asked the pediatrician  if we could get a referal to a specialist to get more facts of what type of birthmark and treatment options etc . He promptly asked WHY.. We told him that we didnt feel well informed on what it was, why is it scaley and if we try to wash it it bleeds and if any health risks were associated with it and let me tell you he went OFF... he acted like he HAD informed us and basically said there is NO reason to see any other Doc.. it was plain and simple that his parents just had not dealt with the fact that its there and nothing was going to change that! Yes his parents have dealt with it and they are only looking out for their sons best interest! Well we left without our referral but  I have a friend in medical field in another city about 3 hours away that got us into a dermatologist June 9th.. Has anyone else out there butted heads with your pediatrician like this over a birthmark?  would you take your child to see a specialist regardless what your ped said?

I am not a Dr. but i think you should definately see a pediatric dermatoligist. My daughter has a Hemangioma between her eyes and on her nose. We took her to see a ped. derm at four weeks old. She has been doing laser treatments and propanhalol since, with amazing results. If it is a Hemangioma, they grow fast for the first nine months of life and becuase of the placement of this, I would defineately see another Dr. ASAP. Keep me updated. By the way, he is absolutely adorable.
