My son is 2.5. He was 12 weeks early. He only says 2-4 words. He is in speech classes. Anybody else having issues? It's so frusturating that he won't talk!

My son was 11 weeks early. He's 4 1/2 yrs old now and has been in speech therapy for awhile now. He's learning to communicate thru sign language and has started to say words now. It's very frustrating but it pulls at your heartstrings when they finally get a word you have worked on for so long. Jen

My son is 27 months. He was born at 35 weeks and has had issues with ear infections.  He's in speech therapy and making progress.  His therapist suggested a book to me that might help you out: The Late Talker.  It has a lot of good information for parents of kids with verbal apraxia.  My son is on the higher end of what is talked about in the book but it sounds like it may be geared right for yours!  Our therapist actually gave me a photocopy of the nurtition chapter that deals with fish oil supplementation, which we are considering starting for him.  It's definitely work a look!!  Check out some of the speech groups here on CM, there are lots of moms dealing with same things as you are and you may be able to find some good ideas. :)
