Hi everyone,
I had my son Austin at 35 weeks.. he ended up spending 1 week in the NICU but only on a ventalator 1 day.  The doctors have no idea WHY he was early, but they told me with my next one my chance is a lot higher of having it early too.  Was this the case for you guys?

Hi there and welcome to our group!  Congratulations on your little dreamboat.  It sounds like he is doing wonderful!

In my case in particular I found out at 22 weeks that I had incompetent cervix and I knew I was going to deliver early.  Also in my case, the incompetent cervix will always be there so in any future pregnancies, my chances of going early are very high.

Unfortunately, in your case they have no idea why you went early.  My question is, if they don't know why you went early to begin with, how do they know you will go early next time?  But there are always options.  Your OB should immediately refer you to a high risk OB who can keep a very close eye on you with your next pregnancy and take every precaution necessary!

Best regards,
Donna

I delivered my first son at 30 weeks with no answer as to why I went into labor and I was also told if we had another baby it would most likely be early also. I delivered my second son at 35 weeks. I'm still not sure why. My OB/GYN monitored my cervix the whole pregnancy to see if that was the reason for the first premature birth.
Don't let that bother you though, some women do go on to carry term with no complications at all. It is just a statistic that shows that most woman do go on to have another premature labor, but you may be that percentage that does not.

Hi there. Had the same Issue. I had a 27 week old girl that died after birth. Then I had my son at 28 weeks. he just turned 4 today. the doctors have no idea why it keeps happening. They said i would have a high chance of it happening again so i just got my tubes tied.So Hang in there. Your next child may be fine. It might have been just a one time thing.

I had a 25 weeker and then had a 36 weeker with intervention. Yes the chances are higher but if you have the proper interventions...you can have a full termie after a preemie.

Thank you all for your responses, I appreciate it! The good thing is, the doctors will just have to keep a close eye on me next time.
