My first child, a daughter was born at 30 weeks 5 days... 3 lb, 11 oz, 16 1/2 inches at birth..She was in the NICU for 6 weeks with quite a few common complications early on, but she is doing amazingly now!

Anyway, I'm pregnant with my second child, a little boy.. I've been getting a makena shot weekly to prevent preterm labor...My insurance only approved up to 34 weeks (wears off at 35 weeks).

The doc expects the baby to come soon after that in all likelihood.

Has anyone had a baby born around 34-36 weeks?? How did they do? Were they in the NICU long?

Thanks :)

well, i've been getting the makena injections, and I'm 33 weeks, 1 day pregnant today. I have been in and out of l&d...When I first went in on the 9th, I was 1 and 50%, so it's a semi slow change since at my appointment on wednesday, i was 2 and 75%, but it's a change..My doctor is trying to keep me pregnant until 35 weeks, but we are preparing to not make it that far. I have gotten shots of tributaline to stop contractions and steroids to help with my sons lungs. I'll keep you guys posted

ok, so Noah William-Patrick was born feb 15th at 5:07am. he was born at 37 weeks, 6 days! i MADE IT TO FULL TERM!!!! he is 6 lb 7.2 oz and 20.5 inches long..he had to have some help breathing for a few minutes (he got stuck coming out) but he got to join me after 2 hours of observation. He's doing great and nursing well :)

You won't know until he gets here. I've seen 34 weekers go home in 2 days, I've seen 36 weekers stay for a month.

I had two 36 weekers. My DD was in NICU for 5 days with respiratory and feeding problems. My DS came home with me after two days.

Good luck! I hope you go to term and he goes home with you!

My twins were born at 34 weeks and were in the NICU for 3 weeks. They didn't have any respiratory issues really but they had bradys and apnea. My other daughter was born at 32 weeks and also spent 3 weeks in the NICU. She did have respiratory issues as well as bradys and trouble maintaining her temp. I guess it just depends on the baby. Good luck with your little guy! I hope you make it to term!

My son was born at 34 weeks. He spent two weeks in the hospital. He never had any breathing issues after the first night and he had no trouble regulating his temp. He was under the lights for a few days with jaundice. The thing that kept him there was feeding. He had an NG tube until about two days before we came home. Good luck with your little one!

My youngest was 34/35 wks (unsure didnt know when I got pregnant due to having PCOS) he was in the NICU for 2 weeks with breathing problems and unable to regulate his body temp. Every baby is different praying your baby is healthy when he or she arrives. Good luck mama<3

My 34 weeker was in the nicu for 12 days. He has minor breathing issues and came home on apnea monitor and caffeine to stimulate breathing. He wouldnt stay awake to eat. We had to constantly stimulate him so he was tube fed but we kept trying every feeding. We expected my daughter early so I had steroids for her lungs. She was 35 weeks and came right home. They put her adjusted GA at 37 weeks. That 34 week mark is when they learn to suck, swallow, breathe in the womb.. so literally every day past that point will matter in how long the hospital stay will be. Good luck, Momma!!

My son was a 35 weeker. He had no problems outside of severe jaundice and lazy eating. We battled the eating for the first 2 months and he had phototherapy for the jaundice but he was discharged with me on day 3. No NICU.

I had a 34w 4d baby and she came out perfectly fine and never spent a day in the NICU. I credit the steroid shots that I received at 33 weeks for her lung maturity. Every baby is different though. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
