Ok my son was 34 weeks and spent 2 weeks in the NICU. My daughter was 35 weeks and healthy because of steroids right before birth. They wanted to put me on progetsterone with my daughter but only after I was 32 weeks which would have minimal affect. Well Im probably pregnant again and Im wondering if its worth it? I would like a term baby but Im wondering how well the shots work? Both pregnancies I had diabetes and my cervix thinned at 30 weeks. I was on bedrest and they still were preemie. I just want to take more control this time. Thanks for the advice!

I was on a progesterone supplement early in my pregnancy until 12 weeks. It was a suppository :-/ I had an early mc before so I went in for early testing when I found out I was pregnant. Hcg was good but progesterone was low. I don't know anything about it maintaining a pregnancy in the third trimester, but I'd like to think it helped me keep Logan early on...he was born at 35 weeks due to decreased movement and dropping heart rate.

They tried to pressure me into getting the progesterone shots from 16-36 weeks with this pregnancy, but my midwife didn't seem to think they would help. My last baby came at 34 weeks. I am currently 28 weeks with baby #3 and I feel like this one will stay put for awhile longer! Every pregnancy is different.

. My first was born suddenly at 31 weeks. My second I had the progesterone shots from 16-36 weeks. I had cervical thinning and shortening and contractions from 23 weeks and was put on modified bedrest. I had my last shot at 35 weeks 2 days, it's supposed to last 7-10 days. My water broke and I had my little boy at 37 weeks 2 days. Did the shots help me get that far? Maybe. They certainly didn't hurt. I would most certainly recommend getting them as a preventative measure. The statistics my perinatologist gave me was that it helps in 50% of cases where a woman has a history of preemies.

Also, go see a perinatologist at the beginning of your pregnancy. They can advise you on what's best in your specific situation.
