My son is 11 weeks actual(5 weeks adjusted). He will take a 4 oz bottle every 2 - 4 hours with no problems but he still seems hungry an hour after he eats. I'm starting to wonder if i should start giving him cereal. I'm going to go talk to his pedi next week and see what he says. His father was like that with food too according to his mom. Is it to early to give him cereal? He just never seems full.
The only way I'd do cereal that early is if you're dealing with a reflux issue. If he still seems hungry an hour later, try a couple more ounces. I've always heard that introducing food too early can lead to allergies and eczema. I waited til my daughter was 6 months to give her cereal. My son is now 5 months (actual, he was 6 weeks early too) and I think I may give him cereal next month.
Oh, also, keep in mind that he could be going through a growth spurt and his demands for food may drop in a week or two.
i hope its just a growth spurt but he's been doing this for the past 2 weeks now.
yes i do.. i only do 1 ounce usually but last night his grandma gave him 2 ounces and he finished it all
The world health organization reccomends that you do not give baby cereal untill they are 4-6 months old, as close to 6 months as you can get. Reason being their little tummies are not yet mature enough to handle solids yet. Have u tried increasing frequency of feedings? Babies tend to go thru a growth spurt at his age...two, four and six months of age are their usual growth spurts. His frequency should lessen in a week or so.
I was told by my pediatrician when they can hold their heads up steady, that is a good sign they are ready. But I am sure every situation is different. My baby girl started cereal when she was 5 months (3 months from due date).
