Hi, my little boy Fox came home Dec 4th after being in the Nicu for 34 days. He's perfect! He was born at 2 pounds 10 ounces. Original due date is Dec 28th.

My question is, during his stay in the nicu he was on a small bottle with the tiny yellow similac nipples. They sent me home with some but not enough. They don't last forever, but I haven't found a nipple he will take. I have tried a few different ones, but his mouth is still so small.

anybody else have this issue?

Do you mean the ones that come with the Similac? If you buy a box of the 2oz ready made formula bottles, a nipple comes with it but I'm not sure if that's the one you're talking about. My son seems to prefer the Medela nipples even though they're a pain in the butt. They aren't vented and they collapse all the time but he likes them.

I dunno the hospital sent me home with them. There small and soft and he can use them easy. I have tried a few others and even if he can draw from it, its a total work out and he passes out before he finishes his bottle.

1 mom liked this
We used dr browns preemie nipples and gerber nipples. That is what my son used at the hospital so we bought some for home and the worked great. If you go to a big baby store like babies r us and look at the bottle isle you will find bottles and nipples made especially for preemies.

Try doing a search online. I had the same problem with all 3 of my fields cause they all spent 3 weeks in the NICU. With my twins I got some online but that was almost 7 years ago so I couldn't tell you where. With my baby who is now 1 I tried the gerber nipples & bottles because they were similar to those nipples & thankfully she took to them. So I threw out the Nicu ones after that cause I didn't want her to get picky again & only want those ones. Good luck!
