Hello Everyone. I am Amber, Mother of now 3 girls. We just had our newest daughter Aug 22. She was born at 36weeks 2days. She was 5lbs 5oz, 18inches. She looked great and seemed to be great and perfectly fine. We then started to realize some problems. Her blood sugar levels just would not go up, she couldnt keep her temp, kept getting low, and she has trouble sucking, she would not eat.
The hospital I had her at, they do not have a NICU (we live in a small town, only one hospital) so they transferred her to the nearest one which is 45 minutes away!!
She is doing a little better, she is able to maintain her temp now so she is in a normal bed instead of the the incubator. They have to give her tube feedings though because she still will not suck. She has started to be awake and alert more now, so they think that is a good sign that she is improving. She seems to be tolerating the feedings so they are going to up the amount in hope that she will gain some weight and that that will help her gain more strength so hopefully it will help her to get down the sucking technique.
I have had all my kids early, but this is the first that has had any problems and needed to be in the NICU. It is a whole new experience for me, and a scary one!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! :)
